Notably, during the 1798 Rebellion when much of the village was destroyed by fire, local anecdotes tell of Murphy’s Hotel escaping damage by cleverly fanning smoke from its windows to suggest the pub had already been set alight. Owned by the Horan family since 2005, Murphy’s began as a bar and lounge, and following a loving renovation, it now boasts ten beautifully finished bedrooms, all designed with comfort in mind. Each room is ensuite and equipped with Wi-Fi and TV, ensuring a relaxing stay. The hotel is wheelchair friendly, complete with an elevator for easy access. The menu offers a wide selection, with steak from beef raised on the Horan family farm in nearby Ballinglen being a standout. Most of the ingredients are locally sourced, reflecting the hotel's commitment to quality and community. Please note the hotel policies: cancellations or no-shows within 14 days of arrival will incur a charge of 100% of the first night’s accommodation. Check-in is from 2pm to 11pm, and early or late arrivals must be arranged in advance on the morning of your arrival. To ensure early check-in, booking the night before is recommended. Very 1980s feel about the place. I wouldn't rush back.
Lovely stay had at Murphy’s . We were down for a wedding close by and this hotel was perfect . Basic but clean and comfortable room . Lovely staff and nice friendly bar . We had breakfast included and have to say it was one of the best breakfasts we had in a very long time . It was cooked fresh to order and was of high quality ingredients. The owner came over for a chat when we were leaving and he was a super friendly man who was genuinely interested in us . If we are ever back down that way we will definitely be saying there again . Great price too .
Overall the location is amazing they are writing downtown so you were within walking distance of everything. Lots of hiking trails nearby. The restaurant serves very good food and they do have a bar with a pool table and dart board. Staph and family that runs the establishment we're very nice and the rooms were very clean and well kept with very comfortable beds and modern showers.
The food here was of exceptional quality and large portions for great value pricing. Staff were friendly and it felt like a very local welcoming pub. Would definitely visit again.
Loved it there, the staff were so friendly and helpful they couldn't do enough for you, the accommodation was stunning everything we needed we will definitely be going back for a few more days Thank you so much Nearby activities: We were 20 minutes from courtown which was great for the kids it was a stunning drive.
