Contribute FeedbackThornbury's restaurant scene offers a variety of experiences, from frustrating to fantastic. While some diners were turned off by long waits, small portions, and lackluster service at some spots, others enjoyed friendly service, delicious food, and beautiful views at different locations. The outdoor seating areas seem to be a highlight, but some establishments may need to work on improving their overall dining experience to ensure every guest leaves satisfied. With varying opinions on different eateries, it seems like the Thornbury dining scene has its highs and lows, catering to a range of tastes and preferences.
Driving through Thornbury to go to The Dam Pub. Got turned away from that place as it was reservation only (no info of this on their site). Tried several other restaurants in the area to be turned down by all, including this place, as they were at their limit and their kitchen was already "behind by an hour" according to hostess. This place, along with all the other restaurants we tried, is a business. For profit. How do you justify turning people away from your restaurant when you are running a business for profit? Was just astounded. Never had this happen before. Anywhere.
Very disappointed with the food. I ordered a BIG roasted beet salad and was given a SMALL salad with a few slices of canned beets and just a few crumbs of cheese. There was no salad dressing either. My husband ordered a pork sandwich, again really small portion with more bun then pork. When asked how our meal was the waiter simply apologized and didn't offer to fix anything. We were charged $45 for this snack! Outrageous.
We had a late lunch and drinks with a large group last weekend. We ordered and finished our drinks before our food orders were taken and we waited over an hour and a half after ordering our food before it arrived. Quite a few guests arrived after us, ate, then left before we even got our food. We had to keep interrupting other servers who passed our table to ask for water, ice, and drink refills and several in our group resorted to walking into the bar to get drinks and ice. The food was fine, but absolutely, definitely not worth the wait. As an added bonus, there was a live earwig in my napkin/silverware when I unrolled it. There was a life performer and the music was a nice distraction during our painfully long wait. Adding more staff and many more umbrellas for shade would really make the outdoor seating area more appealing.
My husband got the hamburger and said that it was one of the best he has ever eaten. My nachos were scarcely average as there was little chicken and the salsa was not tasty. However the beer was a specialty and excellent. Our waitress did her job well. It is a unique building next to Beaver creek.
Stopped by with my family this past weekend (it was Saturday at around 6) for dinner on our way home. The patio was beautiful and so clean. We were seated right away and our server was prompt. They were out of a few things which was slightly disappointing (mint for my drink and the jerk chicken), but my husband and I were both pleased with the food quality. Great chicken wings, amazing fries, and pretty good service. I could definitely picture a wedding reception out back. We will go back again!
