I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Café des Amis in Choulex, canton of Geneva, Switzerland. We had a very pleasant lunch at this charming village restaurant. The service was warm and friendly, and we were seated upstairs, where there is a third dining room in addition to the two rooms on the ground floor. I ordered the perch fillets “meunière” with rice and vegetables (rice instead of fries). They were well prepared, and the restaurant offers a choice between local Lake Geneva perch and imported perch, with a noticeable price difference — but the local fillets were generously sized and of good quality. The meunière sauce was slightly on the abundant side, and the seasoning could have been a bit more refined, but overall the dish was enjoyable. I finished with an apple tart, well made and true to the classic recipe. A nice spot for a relaxed meal in the Geneva countryside.
I came here for the first time to share an aperitif and I was a little disappointed with the service. We had an alcoholic aperitif and not even a few peanuts were offered to us. Then we each had a coffee and again, not a little shock to accompany a very good coffee on a pleasant terrace. Sometimes the little detail makes all the difference
