Description

Nestled as a hidden gem for vegan cuisine enthusiasts, this restaurant showcases an impressive array of soy-based alternative meats and delightful Jamaican vegan options. Customers rave about the exceptional taste of the pumpkin, lentil, and jerk plantain patties, as well as the notably delicious mock fish and chick’n patties. While some dishes may occasionally lack seasoning or freshness, the vibrant atmosphere and strong commitment to organic ingredients shine through. However, the establishment has faced criticism for its handling of customer service and unexpected card payment fees. Overall, it presents a unique blend of flavors worth exploring, provided you exercise caution.

I've been exploring vegan restaurants in all of NYC's boroughs, and until I visited this place, I never thought I would rate a restaurant just one star. First of all, I am quite familiar with Jamaican customer service, so I wasn't surprised by the experience here — I wasn't judging based on that. However, the menu was quite confusing. Someone needs to clarify what "à la carte" really means for them. I ordered the mock oxtail from the à la carte menu, thinking I could add rice and beans since that's how it works with à la carte. Yet, there was no rice and beans available (in a Caribbean restaurant at lunch!), so I opted for the steamed rice instead, which I regretted. At least I wasn't charged for it, but I quickly discovered that my à la carte experience was far from what I expected.

This restaurant offers a variety of vegan options, with all the alternative meat items made from soy. The pumpkin, lentil, and jerk plantain patties are delicious. However, my chickpeas and rice were a bit watery and didn't have much flavor. Overall, the experience was decent.

The food was disappointing; the rice was both soggy and undercooked, and the so-called vegan oxtail gravy was excessively sweet, tasting like a pound of sugar. I decided to change my order, but it didn't improve. The rude and unpleasant manager refused to refund my money. I spent $18, and the portion size was comparable to that of a kids' meal. I will never return to this restaurant. I've heard it's only worth visiting for the patties, which are pre-ordered frozen and simply heated in the oven, so it's hard to go wrong with those. If you're looking for truly authentic vegan food, I recommend heading to HIMM on White Plains Road in the Bronx.

I really wanted to give this place a perfect 5-star rating, but unfortunately, I encountered a very rude owner. I ordered a patty that seemed to have been sitting under a warming light for hours, and by the time I received it, one side was incredibly hard. When I mentioned that I would like to return another day for a fresher patty, he completely brushed me off and was quite impolite. I aim to support local businesses, and I didn't ask for a refund, but I believe I deserve to be treated with respect, especially after driving 20 minutes just to support our community. That's alright, though—God bless!

I really love the new look of the restaurant. Although the prices may have increased, the portion sizes are larger and definitely worth it. Whenever I need a fresh, organic vegan meal, this is my go-to spot!
