The Wharf Cafe - Thames
The Wharf Cafe
Description
Perched on the route to the Coromandel peninsula, this casual café draws locals and travelers with strong coffee, baked goods and standout fish-and-chips — notably giant battered scallops and lemon fish — plus convenient free parking and delivery. Diners praise portions and the view, but experiences are inconsistent: quality and portion sizes have reportedly slipped, service ranges from warm to brusque, and advertised early-morning cooking often starts later. A rewarding stop for coffee and seafood, but expect variability.

Lovely spot by the wharf. Had a really good coffee. Can’t judge the food because I haven’t had any but the fish and chips looked very good, with people having it for lunch usually a good sign). Outside tables could do with a clean. Food: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4
Made a coffee pit stop on the way to Coromandel coast. The service was wonderful and the server was warm and humorous. Brightened the gloomy/cloudy day Service: Dine in Meal type: Other Price per person: $1–10 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

Great pit stop. The ability to eat out on the wharf and enjoy the scenery was worth it. Lots of families and seniors enjoying fish and chips. Mussel Chowder was ok, nothing special. The smoked fishcake had an unpleasant sour taste to it. Lemonfish was tasty. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch
