When we arrived on her birthday, we were told that ther... read more I made a reservation for afternoon tea for 3 people on November 1st to celebrate my daughter's birthday. When we arrived on her birthday, we were told that there was no booking for afternoon tea and that the chef requires 24 hours notice. I showed the staff member my booking confirmation, but it did not specify afternoon tea. I explained that I had booked for tea, but was told this was not the first time this had happened and to report it to reception. The staff apologized and gave us a complimentary pot of tea, but it was not what we had expected or booked for. We were very disappointed.

Had to clear our table after waiting far to long, put our plates e... read more Absolutely dreadful service. Waited an hour for our lunch despite saying we had limited time. Had to clear our table after waiting far to long, put our plates etc on the near table, it was then taken with no acknowledgment that this had been done. Had ordered 3 puddings, again saying time restraint. Nothing arrived, we had been at our table two and a half hours. Absolutely no staff about so I went into the kitchen to complain. By then our friend had to leave. Asked to see the Manager, James, as the waitress said they couldn 't discount from our bill. One of the staff went to find James and came back to say Sorry, James is not here, Honest I have written an e-mail to James with our sorry experience and have not had a reply. I know this was some time ago but the dreadful lunchtime was stays with me as we 4 friends can only meet twice a year.

The staff gave a warm welcome and provided water with our meal without the added cost of bottled mineral water. The pies were delicious and unlike other chain restaurants, the vegetables were not just a few peas thrown on the side, but a generous portion of well-cooked veggies.
