I waited over twenty minutes to reach the drive-thru window, even though there was only one car ahead of me. I had just ordered a basic four-piece chicken tender dinner, and the order in front of me wasn't large either. When I finally got to the window, the staff member didn't even have my order ready and asked me to repeat it. I ended up waiting even longer. I won’t be returning!

I was extremely disappointed with the food here. My toddler was craving mac and cheese, so I decided to stop by for some. I ordered a snack pack, but it turned out to be a complete waste of money. The mac and cheese had an awful smell and tasted stale. My daughter took one bite and said it was disgusting; it even had a strange odor and a brown sticker stuck to the inside of the container. The chicken wasn't any better. I took a bite of both the chicken and the mac and cheese, and I was left with a terrible aftertaste that lingered for at least 15 minutes. I haven't visited Chicken Express in a few years, and I doubt I'll give it another try for quite some time. On a positive note, the young man working the drive-thru was friendly and helpful.

When I finally reached the window, there was a sign reprimanding customers for being disrespectful to the employees, stating that they chose to come to work instead of staying home. The bold, capitalized message about what behavior is unacceptable was a bit much. It seems that while employees can be rude to paying customers, we’re not allowed to express any frustration about the long wait times. Here’s a business tip: if you’re struggling to retain staff, consider raising wages. With the prices on the menu having increased significantly over the past 18 months, you should be able to afford it. I never thought I would pay $16 for chicken strips, a side, and iced tea when this used to cost me around $10. In contrast, if you see the owner working (he’s often in plain clothes), you might actually get your food in a reasonable timeframe. Otherwise, I recommend heading to Braum's across the street, where the staff is friendly and well-staffed.

This was the worst experience I've ever had. The kid taking my order was distracted on his phone. They packed my food and then said it would take another 8 minutes—why didn’t they know this when I placed my order? Then they ran out of tea, and I wasn’t going to wait any longer. I understand now why you’re struggling to hire staff.

The owner of Chicken Express is an older white man with a very arrogant attitude and provides less than satisfactory customer service. After three separate occasions of not receiving a side order I paid for, I called the restaurant. I calmly explained my frustration to the woman who answered, as repeatedly driving home only to find missing items finally pushed me to seek a solution. She was very understanding and offered me a free combo meal on my next visit and even took down my name, which I thought was a great resolution since the missing sides totaled about the cost of a combo. However, when I visited the restaurant today and asked for her, she wasn’t there, so I spoke to the owner instead. He rudely stated they only replace food if I bring back the incorrect item, which is impossible when the item was never provided. After explaining this, he offered me just one side order to make up for everything. My takeaway: avoid giving money to this man—he’s greedy and indifferent to shortchanging customers. The restaurant frequently gets orders wrong, except for two older women who are genuinely kind. Also, the place always has an unpleasant smell, which makes me question its cleanliness.
