We always visit when in town , good home cooked food at reasonable prices. We like to take a wine with us which is lovely. The spelling mistakes on menu are funny too , kids loved that game. We did ask what mammals pie was exactly? It is of course mammas pie, very tasty too , not to be confused with squirrels, bunnies etc. Enjoy. View all feedback.
What Stevee17 doesn't like about The Potato Shack:
We have been here before and had a very good meal, last time was average so for us its somewhere in between. The main reason we had to wait quite a while for our food, when it came the food was fine. They do some specials, treats etc probably the biggest drawback no loos of its own so you have to pop to public toilets just few minutes away but a bit of a pain with kids. Service friendly, omelettes, baked spuds, salad... View all feedback.
Thank you for accommodating my booking for 6 of us today 18th December 2023 apologies if we were a bit noisey the food, drink and service was all good. Lking to return in the new year, Happy Xmas to you both you ladies at the potato shack. Peter C
Just popped in to escape the wind and rain whilst waiting for my relatives in the area. Thought sod it, I’ll have something to eat whilst here. The selection may be sparse to some but the ladies were happy for me to substitute an ingredient for another. I had a cheese and onion omelette with chips and a pot of decaf tea while here. The omelette was cooked to absolute perfection (my dad and uncle are chefs) and thus I’m very critical. But the young lady cooked my food amazingly and I had to let her know of this. If I ever find myself in Essex again I shall endeavour to return here for another heavenly omelette and a smile from the three lovely women running the place.
I went here with my family for lunch. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and kind to my 15 month old granddaughter, which of course made the whole meal a great experience for all of us. The food was freshly cooked and very well presented. My granddaughter tried bacon and ice cream (not together! for the first time and both were great hits. What a great place to have a relaxing lunch at a very affordable price. We can’t praise it enough and the ‘noisy book’ to keep my granddaughter occupied while she waited for her food was much appreciated. The Potato Shack has a 5 star hygiene rating which is also very important to me when choosing somewhere to eat.
Wouldn’t recommend my son wanted a hot dog the staff member rolled her eyes and then took 20 mins to serve a microwave hot dog with no onions despite it saying with onions on menu
We were walking towards the peir when it started raining very heavy.. so we popped into this cafe.. service was a bit laxidaisy even though there were three ladies behind the counter we got our order taken after someone else came in behind us!! we ordered coffees which were brought straight away but no spoons!! hubby ordered a sausage sandwich wow! he said it was the best sausage sandwich he had had in a very long time proper sausage and thick bloomer bread which was nice and fresh so it made up for the mix up from earlier
