What Valerie S doesn't like about Flavors Of Louisiana:
Won't be back. Came at 4:45pm and told we had to wait 15 minutes for them to get gloves. Ordered strawberry lemonade. Terrible. Waitress. Terrible. Messed up literally everyone's order. Left food on the serving counter 10 minutes then brought one dish at a time. Cajun chips too salty inedible. Left off my husbands onion rings and still did not bring them after being told twice. Ended up with red beans and rice to go.... View all feedback.
The food is amazing. we are from louisiana and haven 't found fried fish and hush puppies that are comparable in the valley except for this place. we drive from Gilbert for it regularly. The only negative about the food is that they frequently run out of hush puppy batter. it 's happened several times recently so you 'd think they would adjust how much they make on Saturdays. the other negative is that the cook (who is awesome at the frier) is rude. when I asked about the hush puppies she was aggressive about it being first come first serve and she couldn 't help it etc. it was 5pm. not late so I 'm not sure what she meant by come earlier if you want them. not my problem that we out . I had very politely said that it was the 3rd time in a row they were out. That must have been the wrong thing to say bc it completely set her off and she was unnecessarily rude and combative. so food great. Go enjoy! service is hit or miss stay away from interacting w the mean short haired cook lady at all costs.
The food was off the chain!!!! Delicious. This restaurant is a hidden gem, very authentic New Orleans creole restaurant. I had the drunken Catfish. Tones of food and tons of flavor. Don't sleep on this restaurant on the corner of Kyrene and Elliott in Tempe.
Everything I had was very good. Fried green tomatoes was crispy. Loved the drunken catfish! OMG! I will be getting this everytime. I was looking forward to tasting the gator but they didn't not have at the time. Maybe next time. I'm not a fan of hush puppies but these were soo good and the sauces were just as good. I definitely will be back!
Brief review: it was okay, but not okay enough for us to go back. Longer version: Stopped in a couple Saturdays ago, around 4:30. There was a please wait to be seated sign which was funny because in that large space there was only one other customer. There were three employees in the back, talk. We were seated quickly. I enjoyed the decorations but the temp inside made me wonder if their a/c was broken. The first red flag was when we ordered sweet tea they delivered us unsweet tea with sugar packets. Huh? Why have sweet tea and unsweet tea on the menu if you 're only going to deliver unsweet tea? Having sweet tea on the menu indicates it is already sweet, not a do-it-yourself deal. The second red flag was the appetizers. We got a dirty plate, the fried green tomatoes were paper thin (there was more crust than tomato), and the hushpuppies were completely bland. Even adding butter was no help. My sister enjoyed her sausasage po-boy and cajun fries, although the fries were no longer warm. I had seen our food sitting up at their counter and it sat there for some time. I ordered the red bean bowl. Unfortunately, it too was bland. The spicy sausage was barely there and not enough to help with the flavor. I also am certain the beans should not have what looks like a dry outer growth to them. To be fair, no, I have never lived in Louisiana. Maybe the food is how it 's supposed to be, but when I think about the meals we had at Baby Kay 's, there is absolutely no comparison. If I want cajun food again, Flavors of LA is out. Baby Kay 's is in.
First time to visit. Great food and excellent hospitality. Would recommend, especially to those who are first timers.
