What Eggyegghead doesn't like about Phoenix:
We decided to visit to celebrate a birthday. Booked ok but not time really wanted as last minute booking and Xmas parties. Happy with new time. Turned up pleasant reception, drinks arrived quickly. Meal was different it was ages before we received it. Thought the order hadn’t been put through. This is second time eaten here and the service back then was as slow, that was for breakfast. Food was very nice once arrived... View all feedback.
We stopped in for impromptu Sunday lunch. The decor is very confused and looks a little cheap. A shame in such a lovely building. It was however very clean though with limited toilet facilities. Sadly on a cold January day the fire wasn’t lit though it was a comfortable temperature. Left waiting for an excessive time at the bar without acknowledgment but staff friendly enough once served. We had a beef and a vegan roast. They were nice but only served with three small roast potatoes each and a small side dish of good quality) veg for two people. I don’t have a huge appetite and my partner is tiny but even for us there was not enough. This was politely mentioned to the staff and we were met with a quite aggressive reply that if we wanted more we would be charged for it. I pointed out that wasn’t acceptable and we were grudgingly given more but no extra potatoes. It was a shame that the meal was ruined by the poor approach of the waitress. We would have had another drink and pudding but decided against it. We won’t return. There are many places in Devon offering far better service and value.
Had Christmas dinner at The Phoenix in Chudleigh, it was phenomenal absolutely amazing, Well done Ian Tracey, and the amazing Emma, and all the staff, best going out Christmas Day dinner ever.

We had a fantastic evening at the Phoenix once again. This time, we tried the 3-course Christmas menu and every dish we ordered was exceptional. Each of the four of us chose something different, and we could tell how delicious the food was because everyone was making sounds of delight. The service was top-notch, and we did not have to wait long for our meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
I had not been to this restaurant before, so I was a bit unsure. Upon entering, we were greeted by friendly staff and quickly seated at our table. We visited on a Sunday, so we had the Sunday menu which had a good selection of choices. The service was attentive but not overwhelming. The roast options were delicious, well-presented, and hot. The vegetables were served separately, along with the gravy. The portions were generous, but we still managed to save room for dessert. The restaurant has steps at the front entrance, but I'm not sure if there is a side entrance. Parking is limited, but there is a nearby car park. The toilets are located on the ground floor. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant.
