Yes, it looks like a dive when you walk up to it, but don't let that stop you from having some great seafood at a very reasonable price! I had just gone for an afternoon drive out east from my home in La Mesa and ended up in Tecate. Initially, I went to a panderia and grabbed some cookies and a couple of bottles of water to take down the street to the park and sit under a tree and people-watch. Ok, so I did just that, and realized that I was hungry. While wandering around, I saw this place and decided to give it a go, and I'm glad I did. The hostess/server didn't speak English, and I don't speak Spanish, so I ended up just asking a customer that happened to be bilingual to pick something with shrimp in it and order it for me. Awesome! I had the camarones (shrimp) something rojo al ajo, and it was excellent! A mild red sauce with whole and chopped shrimp, onions, peppers, garlic, rice and a salad of avocados, tomatoes, and cucumbers! Washed it all down with three huge glasses of a really unique/great iced tea. $14 was all. Don't ever pass up small places like this when you are anywhere in Mexico, you'll miss out on some great eating experiences!!!

My wife and I stayed at Mariscos Cajeme on the way back from an overnight road to Ensenada and the wine country Valle de Guadalupe (Route 3). The meal we enjoyed at Mariscos Cajeme before we went back to the USA at Tecate was fantastic... and a great value for the money we spent. The Chavela was ice-cold, refreshing and delicious. For dinner we enjoyed the Pulpo al Mojo de Ajo (Octopus sauteed with garlic) and the Camarones a la Diabla (Shrimp in a spicy garlic and chili sauce). The plates cost 110 pesos (approximately $9 per piece) and included a brownish/spicy vegetable soup (first course), while the reige plates arrived with a fresh garden salad (with avocado), lush rice, a baked potato with all trimmings, and generous help of the well-prepared and tasteful entree portions. In short, if you have the opportunity to visit Tecate and you want a large seafood meal, don't miss Mariscos Cajeme. We'll certainly be back there when we come to Tecate for the next time.
