Hence... read more I wanted to celebrate the birthday of my wife. I sent an e-mail to reserve a table, that was accepted when I proved that I have hotel reservation nearby. Hence I wanted to visit a high quality restaurant near to Mauterndorf I had no other...way. Fortunately the service, the quality of the food, the wine and other beverages were all exceptionally good. The size of the restaurant is very small, so it is almost like a family home. We enjoyed it and never forget.

The men had the course menu and the women had the course. The atmosphere, service and food were exceptional. Also opted for the...wine parings which were locally sourced (Austrian) and well matched. If you are a foodie, this would be a must visit if you happen to be in the vicinity.

Man muss darauf gefasst sein, etwas mehr Geld auszugeben als in "gutbürgerlichen" Restaurants, bekommt dafür aber einen reellen Gegenwert. Es gibt nur einen Gastraum mit maximal 18 Plätzen, aber da ja in der Regel nicht jeder Tisch mit 4 Leuten besetzt ist, sind es meist nur ca. 10 Gäste, die entsprechend individuell bedient werden - von der Gattin des Kochs selbst und einer sehr fachkundig geschulten Servicekraft. Das Angebot besteht aus einer kleinen Karte und mehrgängigen "Überraschungsmenüs". Wir wählten ein Viegangmenü (49 Euro) plus Weinbegleitung (31 Euro) p. P. Aber es sind mehr als 4 Gänge - die Küche flocht zwischen den Gängen noch kleine Überraschungsleckerli ein, alles in außergewöhnlich hoher Qualität. In Anbetracht dessen erschien uns der Preis für´s Menü sehr angemessen. Die Weinbegleitung überrschte uns zunächst mit sehr schönen Weißen und einem Roten, auch da gilt: Preis angemessen, aber die Beerenauslese am Schluss enttäuschte etwas. Uns schien, sie stand schon ein paar Tage offen, hatte keinen Pep mehr.Wir werden Die Stubn immer wieder besuchen bei unseren Aufenthalten im Lungau. Aber immer nur ein- bis zweimal. Jeden Abend hinzugehen würde es uns den Charakter des Besonderen nehmen, außerdem strapaziert es halt doch auch den Geldbeutel ...

Unfortunately we visited a bit late in the season and there were no porcini available what the area is famous for. We also missed a dish from...the forests such as deer, rabbit etc. as part of the menu. But still the place is exceptional and definitely worth a detour.

The wine was delicious and it makes it a very relaxing experience. No looking...at wine lists. They also do wine tastings by appointment who are also excellent and we would recommend.it.
