I think that we found where we want to get reasonably priced tasty Asian food. Everything was good to great and the sauces were light and not overly sweetened or thickened. Drawbacks were a lack of lack of descriptions on their menu, no beef and mixed vegetables, and no sauce came with the dumplings, but we're definitely ordering from here again. View all feedback.
What Alan M doesn't like about Peony River:
First time customer. My go to Chinese meal is General Tso 's Chicken which is my own, personal gauge of the quality of the food served. Sadly, it disappointed this time. The chicken was dry and chewy, the coating soggy and the sauce was thick and gelatinous almost like too much cornstarch in the mix. Not a pleasant eating experience at all. View all feedback.
Don't be fooled by the outside appearance, the inside is actually decorated very nicely and has a peaceful relaxing ambience. The service is always very friendly and the portion sizes are big enough to share. Depending on what you get, the food either really hits or doesn't at all. The first time we had the Fried Chicken with Red Hot Chili which is absolutely delicious. It's probably my favorite thing on the menu. We also tried the Pan-Fried Dumplings which were just okay. Last time we went, we tried Crab Rangoons, Egg Drop Soup, and Honey Sesame Chicken. The rangoons were disappointing, basically no crab flavor and they aren't served with sweet chili sauce so I had to make do with duck sauce from what was already at the table. The egg drop soup was also really underseasoned, so we had to add soy sauce to taste anything. The honey sesame chicken saved the day, it was great and had just the right texture. I just wish it had a little more salt, but it made the meal worth it. At least they always get their chicken right. Next time we visit I'll have to take a look at the specials, they seem really unique and authentic!

Got the spicy beef noodle soup for lunch it was heavenly and perfectly spicy. there were huge pieces of garlic and entire szechuan peppercorns in the broth…… so so yummy. plus it was a huge serving for $11. i had to take the rest home.the hostess was very friendly and attentive. love the decor in here, especially the big fish tank when you walk in. the menu design is very cute and well organized. my man had the lunch special general tso’s chicken huge portion for the price $8) and came with rice and hot and sour soup. i can’t wait to come back and try more stuff on the menu.
If I can give less than a star I would gladly be the one to award this place with less than one star!!!I am choked how this place is functioning! Where the DOH from this filth? The moment you enter the dining room, you can’t help not to see the carpet, the floor and the ceiling!! Filth!!!The worse Chinese food I ever had in my life.Food is not fresh, not hot and to add salt to injury the food is cooked with old oil!! WHAT!! Where are we???Have a look at the pictures and make up your mind. The hostess is not helpful at all. Subpar service.
This has been my favorite Chinese food place for over a year now and I've gotten my co-worker hooked. Me and my best friend go for lunch whenever she's in this side of town. The owner is wonderful and sweet. The food is really fresh and delicious. I've tried different things on the menu and nothing has disappointed yet.Wonderful atmosphere as well!
