I love this restaurant. I love the location, the food, the staff, the facility... it's all just excellent. I hadn't been here in years, and I was happy to see that everything was exactly how I remembered. We were really early for our reservation, but the staff quickly got us a fantastic table right next to the huge stone fireplace, and it was perfect. Love the wine selection.
Been here numerous times. It is slipping. Service was good acceptable given height of season and normal challenges. Expect service to be good not outstanding Food was good too. I am not a big fan of Wagyu beef. Don’t care for it particularly because it has a sweet flavor and the preparation made that sweetness over bearing. As minced, it needs a binder and not much to keep it together thus burger is not really that good Ambience is mountain lodge and views are nice. Noise level is good and one is able to carry on a conversation. Important to me. Overall good; but, was better.
So disappointed this year! We had two meals so far during our visit to the Devils Thumb Ranch and both were under par. To get chicken on my Cobb salad at noon, I would have cost $10 more... what Cob salad doesn't have chickens? That would have been a $25 salad. I know DTR is an upscale experience, but this salad was a joke. Dinner wasn't better. We ordered pork fillet, not cooked to order, and it was dry and hard. The rice was not properly boiled (Unterdon) and the Mac and cheese of the child was grainy and so hot it was insensitive until we get another bowl to cool it. The menu, compared to years, was small and uninspired. Sad. I was always looking forward to my meals here.
Amazing! Server Shawn made the experience and the food was some the best. Scallops were delicious and my husband had the bison tomahawk.
Nice seats at low table right next to the fireplace. Good beer selections. Attentive service. Great ambiance with high timbered ceilings. Also had pleasant live music.
The reviews for Heck's restaurant at Devil's Thumb Ranch are mixed. While some diners were disappointed with the quality of food and service, others praised the comfort food at a reasonable price. The ambience, especially the seating near the fireplace, and beer selections were noted as positives. Some guests enjoyed celebrating special occasions at the restaurant and found the food to be excellent. The new head chef has made positive changes to the menu, making it worth another visit. Overall, the restaurant offers a relaxing atmosphere and delicious dishes, although some aspects can be hit or miss.

I was extremely disappointed with my dining experience at Devils Thumb Ranch this year. My visit consisted of two meals, both of which were below average. The Cobb salad for lunch was lacking chicken and would have cost an additional $10 to add it, making it a $25 salad. The salad itself was a disappointment for an upscale dining experience. Dinner was also unsatisfactory, with the pork tenderloin being dry and tough, the rice undercooked, and the child's Mac and cheese being grainy and too hot to eat until we received a new bowl to cool it down. The menu was small and uninspired compared to previous years. It is unfortunate as I have always enjoyed dining at this restaurant.
We enjoyed celebrating my cousin's birthday at this restaurant. The ribeye we ordered was perfectly cooked and very generous in size. The service was average, possibly because we had a new server. The biggest disappointment was that the vegetarian option was overpriced and not well-planned for a satisfying dinner.
We had a wonderful dinner. The new head chef has made some delicious changes to the menu. If you have not been to Heck’s this season give it a try. You will be pleasantly surprised. It’s an all new Heck’s experience. Yum!
The dinner we had at this restaurant was quite disappointing, particularly for a New Year's Eve dining experience. The crab legs were served ice cold, making it challenging to enjoy them. The prime rib we received was undercooked and had a red hue to it. The vegetables were not roasted thoroughly, some even had raw centers. The dessert options were limited and looked cheap, with better cupcakes available at a local bakery. Additionally, the presence of jello on the menu was surprising. When inquiring about more Nutella cheesecake, we were told that they had run out, leaving us without a special cake or dessert option. Given the price we paid, a glass of Prosecco or champagne to greet guests would have been a nice touch. Overall, the dining experience was very disappointing.
The restaurant was charming, delightful. The staff was very accommodating, catered to our needs. Wonderful atmosphere, beautiful view! The buffet was nice but very overpriced, did not have the taste you would expect for the price, could have had a few more vegetables!
