Haven Specialty Coffee - Surry Hills

I stumbled upon this café last week when walking back to work. Unfortunately for them, they are now sitting in the middle of a Metro construction zone with little passing traffic. It was still quite busy though. I only had a takeaway coffee that was quite good and will go back to try the egg waffles. This review is simply to advise anyone looking for gluten free options to read the menu carefully. I am always looking for gf meals for a family member. I was concerned to see a dish on the menu labelled gf when it clearly is not. The dish contains black barley. I spoke to someone in the kitchen to let them know they should take the gf label off but I am not sure he agreed with what I had said about the gf status. If the dish was labelled wheat free, it would have been accurate. With a mistake like this, anyone looking for a gf meal should ask questions about what is in their meal before ordering.

Intrigued to visit this Cafe after seeing many of their meals' photos posted on Instagram. Place was really packed when I came and I had to wait for a while. Coffee was okay (not outstanding). My favourite meal was the egg waffle (last bit of summer). It's a great experience overall but price was too high in my opinion.

I've been seeing pics of these famous waffles on my instagram for months and finally decided to try out Haven. I was lucky enough to get here by 9am on a Sunday Morning, so we got a table without a hassle. in a matter of minutes, the place was packed out and there were lines outside. Their food and drinks are served with an Asian twist and the flavours are awesome. I loved the ambience of the cafe and the egg waffles are worth rave! so soft and tasty.

This was a off track place recommended by a foodie friend. We were pleasantly impressed by service, offerings and sensational dishes. I had the pasta with squid ink smoked salmon it was excellent until I found a long black hair in my black squid dish. Other than that everything else was great from coffee, matcha red bean waffle and the rest. Worth going but hopefully this feedback gets back to the kitchen on basic hygiene.

We had brunch on a Saturday morning. The restaurant was packed. We ordered oyster ink pasta and 'it's not a Benedit' from the menu. Both dishes were great. We were asked to sit at a table with stools which was not comfortable and close to the toilets.
