Hanamaru - Sunnyvale

I decided to try Hanamaru because it was more affordable than the sushi restaurant I usually order from, Satsuma. Unfortunately, I won’t be going back. The sushi was quite low quality and just didn’t taste good. We even had to throw some of it away, which has never happened to me with sushi before. Overall, I give the food a rating of 3 out of 5.

The grilled shio saba was excellent, with a flavor reminiscent of charcoal grilling. The salad was quite good as well. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the level of care that went into the food here.

My mom and I really enjoy ordering takeout from here. The food is expertly prepared, and the staff is incredibly friendly. My absolute favorite dish is the vegetable tempura, featuring perfectly cooked winter squash, sweet potato, zucchini, and broccoli, all coated in a delicious tempura batter. My only complaint is regarding the kani salad sushi that my mom frequently orders; the nori is always quite soft. It might be because it's pre-made? I believe it would be better if it were assembled at the last minute rather than pre-wrapped. Nonetheless, my mom enjoys it so much that she orders it at least once a month. Everything else is fantastic!

2, 3 item bento box (chicken teriyaki, cali. Roll, tempura, avacado roll, veggie tempura) with some side dishes. Always great quality with high quantity when we doordash food from here. Never disappoints and haven't had any issues!

An alright local sushi spot. I ordered online and picked up, it was pretty quick and the food was packaged well.The reason I'm giving two stars is because the restaurant itself smells really bad. I have no idea why or how a restaurant would smell so terrible, but it completely ruined my impression of the place the food was fine but I won't be going back. Also the restaurant is completely takeout only I was a bit surprised because I expected to walk into an actual restaurant but it's just a huge empty room that smells terrible where the employees barely acknowledge you. The next time I want sushi I'll be looking elsewhere.
