We were in Summerville looking at a home for sale. We found the Red Pepper where we were able the get a reservation on a Friday evening. Got seated right away, and had good service. The food and cocktails were delicious. We will definitely return. View all feedback.
What Sara Thompson doesn't like about The Red Pepper An Italian Eatery:
Our waitress was very sweet. The food however was a little disappointing. People have raved about this place and finally tried it. Not impressed. Ravioli was fine , sauce was watery and didn’t stick. My husband got spaghetti and meatballs. I make better meatballs. They were gross and had no flavor. The frozen meatballs in the grocery store might have more flavor. Our party of four researched and decided on this eatery. BIG mistake! Upon pulling into the parking area, we noticed the sign outside by the road. It read: Kitchen Help Wanted , and we should have heeded the warning !! Our server did the best she could, but nonetheless, our dinners arrived nearly an hour and forty minutes after being ordered. The pasta dishes (Carbonera, and Alfredo) had clearly been sitting under the warming light for some time, as evidenced by the dry crustiness of the food surface. After a mix toss however, the entrees were brought back to life. The salmon offering was ok (at best), and the pasta and meatballs with red sauce seemed the freshest and most recently put together . After we had eaten, the Hostess approached out table, and asked: Was it worth the wait?? Well... not really. Yikes! Apparently there is drama... a history of shouting and cursing that leaks out of the kitchen with some frequency. It would appear that one of the cooks (and some previous others) had just had enough, and walked! Regardless, this is high priced, ordinary and unremarkable food. I would not recommend this establishment. At least not until they finally get some capable kitchen help (and perhaps a new chef). Peace.
I read the reviews and menu online. My husband loves a good veal dinner.(not all good restaurants make veal) After a day of traveling we found The Red Pepper. We went on a slower day, Tuesday. It was a little hard to locate on the main road but glad we did. Once inside the hostess reminded us to watch our step and inside we went. The wait staff greeted us and answered our questions. Food was very good and delicious. I would eat their again if in the area. However, the inside needs a remodel. The ceiling needs to be taken down and redone and the decor is very dated. Upon leaving I missed the step....

This is the cutest place. Old house turned into restaurant. The food is amazing.
