Swiss Fondue By Heinz - STOWE

We had cheeze fondue and chocolatefondue. cheese and service were good, brot very lame. wein selection is limited. herr heinz is a nice man, but seems to have perfected a method of milking tourist with a smile. in the did came our greatest surprise with the bill. 1300 usd for 6 adults and 6 children. for example the “If they want, I can add some apples for a little extra fee” ended up costing us 5$ per apple. herr heinz left the parking lot in his white porch was the cherry on the tip. so, my advice: enjoy the fondue, but ask them about the price before they’re in time “offering” during the meal.

We had a complete fondue dinner with cheese, steak and garnel to dinner and chocolate dessert. we celebrated the birthday of my man and brought my instincts of maine, who had no fondue since the 1970s, and my teenage boys. we all loved it attentive service, fresh, tasty eating and such a cozy atmosphere! we even met the owner heinz and his wife. Look at it!

Not one to complain, but was presented with $500 check for 4 people. Ordered a bottle of “house white wine” presented with a second bottle without asking at $95 per bottle. Confronted waiter who said I should call police. Fondue was good but experience made a dinner out into a confrontational experience. Better options available, pass on this restaurant!

This review gets three bubbles because my kids loved the experience and have no clue what a $400 meal should look like. FYI we are a family of 4 with a 10 and an 11 yo. Cozy charming looking restaurant. Staff was friendly and welcoming enough. Food was the problem here. The cheese fondue did have a bechamel consistency and the flavor was overly alcoholic. The broth fondue was tasteless. The shrimp did not have a fresh clean flavor. The apples, bananas and strawberries served with the chocolate fondue were overly ripe and unfresh. Overall the quality of the ingredients did not seem high. Each entree was close to $40-$50 a head. The only beverage ordered was one cup of mulled wine which cost $16. There was an automatic gratuity put on the check which makes sense because people might be unhappy with the bill and dock the servers. Was a good bucket list experience with the kids but for us this is a FON DONT!
