They dropped chips on the floor right in front of me and then put them in my pocket. The guy thought I didn't see it.
"Hands down, the best fish and chips shop I've been to in a long time. The service was very friendly and I haven't had a single negative experience. I will definitely be returning for more."
Stanmore chippie has been through a number of iterations. The new management have revamped the shop and the menu. The burger actually tastes like meat and the chippies are handcut excellence. We live locally and this is our new guilty pleasure when only decent chips...will do. Potato scallops are also excellent properly cooked and crunchy.
We were in two minds over our review. Why you might ask? 1. (Bad) We lived in Stanmore before the previous owner sold the business and 2. (Good) They serve fresh/raw fish now The fish chips isn't bad by Sydney standards, however for some...unknown reason, the fish batter and chip texture was better under the previous owners. The fish seems that little more oilier now and the chips not as crunchy as they use to be. The Good: Location Opens early in afternoon Fresh salad options Raw fish (salmon and white fish) and this represents 90% of our purchases. We sometimes get them to cook it if in a hurry, but not often Outdoor seating Other options I.e. Pineapple rings, etc Burgers are great The Bad: Batter on chips and fish could be crunchier The Ugly: Nothing to report Summary: We visit SF C 2 3 times a month for the uncooked fish options, however tend to buy our battered fish and chips from the shop on Johnstone St, Annandale. One of my friends recently mentioned that he loved the F C from Stanmore. Given its been months since I've ordered battered F C, I'll try a serving soon and let you know my update. If I hadn't lived in Stanmore when the previous owner was here, I might not be so picky however at the end of the day, it's not same. Keep up the fresh fish options though.
