Our goto sushi place in the Byram/Stanhope area. They are fantastic and this is coming from a couple that had access to prime sushi back in Bergen County! Love it! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Halulu:
I discovered a hair in my bowl, the tables were old and dirty with chipped paint, and the noodles had an overly sweet flavor. When I asked the waitress if she could remove the noodles from my bill, she told me it was not possible. Additionally, my appetizer arrived after my main course and the waitress kept asking if I wanted it, although it took so long that I had already finished my meal. View all feedback.
I have been dining here for the past three years. The food is consistently delicious and it's a BYOB restaurant. However, I have noticed that the prices have been increasing along with everything else.
We opted for the all-you-can-eat sushi option. We were disappointed to find that several of our favorite sushi items from the regular menu were not included in the all-you-can-eat selection. However, the sushi we did try was fresh and delicious.
This is more of a feedback comment. If you have a party of 8 and half will do hibachi and on top your restaurant is empty.... why denied to seat at station for hibachi? The cooker will get tips and there are 4 people eating hibachi plus the other 4 wanted some stuff a la carte made during hibachi experience. Good food, flavor, friendly staff.
While the atmosphere may not be the best, Halulu is a hidden gem for all-you-can-eat sushi lovers. The food is exquisite and the service is always top-notch. I highly recommend trying their fried scallops with amazing sauce and the tuna appetizer for a super savory experience.
At first when my partner and I arrived and were seated, we were then ignored for 20 minutes until they asked about drinks. The sodas themselves were watered down. The food was good but we will not be returning. We stood up and went to pay and they yelled and accused us of running out, as we were standing next to our table talking. Then after we paid, we had forgotten a tip and on our way back in, they CHASED us into the parking lot screaming. They then forced the bill into my poor partners hand, pointing at the tip line. They felt forced to give a tip. Honestly, the food may be good, but the service is to be desired and I have NEVER been chased in a parking lot before. Totally unprofessional.
