Cosy cafe with beautiful roof terrace in the middle of the city. Beautiful ambience and super delicious homemade cakes as well as exceptional varieties. A visit definitely recommended View all feedback.
What Gesine Freund doesn't like about Altstadtcafe Stade:
Visited Stade with my family of five. When the top picks were overcrowded, they finally came here. First, the whole café is to be noticed in a beautiful old building, but the interior is far from charming beings in an eighty hotel furniture style and plastic laminate flooring. Cake is ok’ish, but not exciting. Unfortunately, order cakes directly at the counter while drinks are ordered at the table, which means that o... View all feedback.
We went here for breakfast and it was lovely. It's clearly a real tradition in Germany and it was nice to sit over a pleasant breakfast together. There were many and varied dishes on offer, although certain ones could have been refreshed more quickly perhaps. Very good indeed all round.
My review is about is about breakfast.Since a decade ago, it become normal to many people living in this part of Germany to take weekend breakfast in a cafe or restaurant that provides it as buffet.Twenty years ago, there was a couple of options, today the offer multiplied. Is quite a good feeling - especially with good weather - to enjoy a lazy breakfast in a Terrace or Patio. The Altstadtcafe has Terrace on his back side over a Patio made by the several houses hundreds of years old.The cafe itself is located in the first floor of one of this charismatic houses with irregular construction. The breakfast offered is not the best I got already, but is to the same level that can be found only in some four and five star hotels.I will be be back for sure to try lunch or dinner.
We enjoyed the charm of the upstairs restaurant. The fischplatter was very good with 3 kinds of lightly breaded fisch. We saw some nice cakes to try next time and hopefully nice enough to sit outside.
A very welcoming cafe/restaurant where we only had coffee but were treated like kings! The young waitresses could not have been more helpful which included taking lots of pictures of the seven of us!
We have been here twice when visiting family and both times had a lovely time. As mentioned by the previous reviewer, the house itself is amazing. Inside it has a cozy feel slightly reminiscent of a cafe from the 70's - but in a good sense. This time we went for lunch and the quality of 4 out of the three dishes were amazing. Salmon on a bed of linguine and spinach and the soup of the day (carrot, orange and thyme). I would have given it 5 stars if the third dish had been similar and there had been bread with the soup. Sadly my daughter chose spaghetti with tomato sauce which tasted as if it had come out of a tin. Staff were very friendly and did not rush us. Prices were reasonable particularly whenconsidering the location.Next time we will try the cakes which looked absolutely stunning on display.Worth mentioning that they also offer a breakfast buffet (eat as much as you like) for around 10 euros pp including a pot of tes or coffee for which you should prebook.
