we had lunch because they like to have dogs. there were some colorful locals with a Sunday spider. the lunch was great overall. good quality and generous. the bratkartoffeln were a highlight that was obviously cooked with butter. it is an old gas house, so it is not big, bright and breezy. but it has character in bucketloads. happy, friendly team has been looking after us. I was never a particular pizza fan before I went vegan and so have never missed them. However, for various reasons, I have had 3 vegan pizzas over the last month they've all been good but this was superb. The vegan mozzarella they use is lovely and they don't skimp on it. There are loads of optional extras so you can build a pizza to exactly suit your taste. We shall be returning very soon!
As well as a well-stocked salad bar and (gf base available too) vegan pizza on the menu (from 3pm) they had 3 gf vegan baked goods: a brownie, a chocolate coconut topped flapjack and raspberry crumble square. I may have eaten 3 of the raspberry crumble squares, no regrets.
Lovely pizza. If there’s no vegan cheese in stock they will allow you to bring your own and it to the pizza for you. Very reasonable prices.
I was really thrilled to find this place last time I was in St Just. I 'm from Cornwall myself, was vegetarian from the age of 11 (I 've been vegan for 3 years now , and when I was young it was almost impossible even to get vegetarian food a lot of the time. Asking for a salad sandwich would often lead to the refrain 'what, no meat?? ' followed by utter confusion. These days it 's getting a lot easier (yay! and finding The Square last time I was home visiting my Mum was a lovely surprise. It was a flying visit, and unfortunately I was there too early in the day to get to try the vegan pizza, but I had a large salad with a vegan bhaji, a slice of vegan cake, and coffee with soya milk. It was filling, tasty, and excellent value for money. The staff were delightful, friendly, and very welcoming. Next time I 'm down visiting family I 'm going to make sure I 'm in time to try the pizza, and they had some very tasty sounding sorbet too. My one very minor complaint, is that I wish they 'd been serving the vegan pizza at lunch time!
This small pub is exceptional with friendly staff and a fantastic selection of beers. While the menu is somewhat typical, the dishes are served promptly and in generous portions. The freshness of the food is evident in every bite.
