21 years ago I went to Pizza Donini in the west island and had what I remember to be the best pizza I have ever tried in my life. I remember there was only one employee working there at the time, he was a a tall immigrant young man. I asked how is the restaurant running with one employee, he said that he was the cook, the cashier, and the delivery guy all at once. I was really amazed because he seemed like he had everything under so much control. A month later I went back to the restaurant to try that pizza and I was shocked to see that the restaurant was closed down. I was so furious at Pizza Donini for not helping the young man out , so I called head office and finally I reached the owner of Pizza Donini Peter Daros and I gave him a piece of my mind. He then told me that it wasent a decision from Pizza Donini to shut down his restaurant. It turns out that the young man had fled his country from mandatory military service and was working illegally in Canada on an expired visa. Immigration came and physically had to remove him from the kitchen. He was so dedicated he refused to comply , so they called the RCMP and it took 8 officers to be able to physically eject him from the kitchen. Mr Daros then continued the sad story by saying that when they went to that branch to close down the business, they found 71,000 dollars under a tile in the office along with a pipe.
In December 2022, I tried to order pizzas after having received a pamphlet by mail about a special deal available. I call them and the telephone representative who answered said that the pamphlet is out of date. I told them that I just received by mail. She answers that there is not such special deals. I ask to speak with a manager. She says passes me over. The manager continues and confirms that the pamphlet is not applicable. I ask for an explanation as to why they send outdated pamphlets by mail. Usually, people expect the pamphlets to be applicable when they receive them by mail. Maybe it would be appropriate to make sure that the publicity that they send by mail is applicable not send publicity which is outdated. That would be called “false publicity”. A good explanation for the current false publicity would be appropriate solution but the manager did not offer a satisfying answer. Thus the bad rating. Again the greater region of Montreal consistently offers bad services and refuses to upgrade on the basis that we are stuck with them. If we are stuck with bad management what are you going to do about it? Meanwhile in Canada, the service is still poor, and management by corruption is STILL SAD.
What a great surprise this place was. Our new favourite fast food type pizza for the occasional treat. We had a mozzarella, mushroom, artichoke and bacon pizza and it was quite good. Not greasy and well cooked crust, just as we asked.
FINALLY! DONINI IS MAKING A COMEBACK! This was my go to Pizza chain for my family growing up in the 90's. They closed many many years ago...but nostalgia always wins!
