Arrived Monday July 24th. at approx. 1:35. walked in and had to order at the counter. Noticed 18 people waiting for food, and enquired with the Girl working if there was going to be a long wait and was told she was the only one working!,taking phone orders, cooking , serving, cleaning up etc. After about 30 mins she brought out the food for the 18 people waiting ahead of us. Thats all the food they could prepare at one and we had to wait another 20 mins for our order. My wife oder the salmon came half cooked luke warm on a dish with a small salad, probably the only item worth eating.I ordered the all you can eat fish and chips for 17.95 which came with soggy batter fish dripping with water and fries that must have been left from the previous orders. NO COLD SLAW, THATS EXTRA.Never asked how our food was or if I would like more fish. The total bill with was 39.55 including tip. You have to pay when you place your order and of course include the tip.
My impression upon entering made me have my doubts. This little shoppe has been on the main street of Spruce Grove (McLeod Avenue) for a number of years. You cannot last long in the food service industry if the food is not great so I threw my initial impressions to the wind and saddled up to order my Cod (two pieces,) fries, cole slaw and Mountain Dew. This was a solid hit and I am glad I took the time to stop in. If you are looking for great fish and chips, this is for you.But this place is in need of a freshen-up! Okay, all little restaurants that deep fry their product tend to have an oily smell. That is expected and frankly, is a good sign for a fish and chips shoppe. But if I lived in Spruce Grove, I would take my food to go. A little care and love along with some fresh paint and better lighting, would not be an exorbitant cost to the owners and I think would go a long way toward making this a better dining-in experience.
