Goodland Bbq - Springfield
Goodland Bbq
Description
A hometown Southern BBQ and comfort-food spot praised for warm, attentive service and classics like country fried chicken, pork chops, made-to-order liver with gravy, hearty sides and banana pudding. Devoted regulars laud its comfort-food consistency and reasonable prices, but experiences vary: some diners report overcooked or stale-similar meats and occasional buffet/closure hiccups since a post-pandemic ownership change. Offers dine-in, buffet and takeout; best to confirm hours and expect a casual, homey atmosphere.
Feedback
I would say that Goodland is my favorite restaurant of all time. I've never been disappointed. I even enjoy the sweet greens they serve here in the South, where a little sugar is perfectly acceptable! I love all the dishes on their menu, and I can't wait to go back.
Best fried chicken in the state. Generally, food is wonderful with the exception of sweetened turnip greens. Nobody likes sugar in greens???
I haven't eaten here since before the pandemic, and since then the restaurant has changed ownership. The menu is similar to what it used to be, but I don't think it's as good as it once was. The prices were reasonable; I arrived around 1:30 PM. Unfortunately, the food didn't seem fresh at all. The chicken was overcooked and dry, and the fish wasn’t any better. The chopped BBQ was decent, though I didn’t see any BBQ sauce available. I skipped the vegetables and mac and cheese because I follow a low-carb diet, so I can't comment on those. Will I be coming back? Probably not, as I don’t find myself in this area often, and I can easily skip this place.
