New Chef is excellent!! We had a big party and the service was amazing and the food was fantastic. Very creative presentation and the specials were delicious. Cocktails were excellent too! We haven't been in a couple years since the Lodge changed hands and we were SO happy with the new ownership and chef. This is a step up from the old Melody. Fine dining in the mountains. What Ginny Bailey doesn't like about Melody Lodge:
This was a total nightmare. My family has been coming to this establishment for years. Was wonderful My husband passed away, and my daughter set up a dinner for a final tribute for our entire family. It was done months in advance. She gave 200.00 deposit. She was told we’d have to choose from four items, which we did. We get there and they’re out of this that and whatever. The manager was nasty to us, our children fo... View all feedback.
Though we were disappointed that the restaurant is currently closed, the lodging was fine. In keeping with its history as a girls' singing school, each lodge room is named for a musical instrument and has that instrument on the door. The rooms were very clean and recently renovated in a bright, simple Adirondack style, without overdoing the rustic decor. Even though our room lacked a refrigerator, when we asked about it, the owner quickly made one available. Aside from some on-going repair work from winter water damage, the lobby is inviting, with comfortable couches and a stone fireplace. We ate our lunch out on the open porch, enjoying the breeze, birdsong, and lovely view of the mountains. The only drawbacks were that some of the building's exterior and flower beds need upkeep. We're hoping that, in time, a good chef will once again be serving top-notch meals in this beautiful hilltop venue, where every dining table offers a scenic view.
Thanks. Outstanding food and service. Very pleased. We haven't been in over two years, so we were very happy with the new ownership.

I have been coming up to Speculator for 30 years I am 4 generation ! Speculator is a true hidden gem in the beautiful Adirondack mountains! Melody Lodge was my FAVORITE restaurant to go to and I would always look forward to dining at this restaurant when I was up there. Until a series of very unfortunate events occurred this past weekend. Our entire immediate family was up for the weekend for a memorial of my grandfather who had passed and LOVED his place in speculator. We had arranged this dinner May 5 and have been in contact to assure things run smoothly for this. Upon arrival we were greeted very kindly by our waitress. We all were seated, placed our orders and that’s when everything went south. Our waitress came out telling us they didn’t have enough food for what we were allowed to order. Please keep in mind we had email the owners our orders MONTHS in advance. We had asked to speak to the manager and to our surprise our waitress Liz said I am the manger, when we asked what we can do to resolve this and she said “I really don’t know” now as some of us get our drinks we had found a hair in one of them, we kindly sent it back and it wasn’t just hair floating in the drink it was wrapped in the garnish this has been 30 minutes and they are still trying to “figure out” how to have us order, as they send out our salads which was complete chaos cause they didn’t know where or who ordered what so everyone got the wrong order, with this all occurring the owners husbands came out extremely inappropriate with the chief yelling at us saying “ look he has no hair “ … then accused us of purposely putting the hairs in our drinks and salad… the hairs found didn’t NOT match the people who received it. As frustration is building and our family member who asked if the staff in the kitchen are wearing hair nets and complying with the department of health no answer was given and another person of our party who was leaving now hears our waitress the manager come out into the lobby and say “ I am going to punch this guy in his face” At this point it is complete chaos the owners husband who us and other customers have seen outside drinking comes in screaming at us, saying he doesn’t know what to and that we should have ordered off the menu which we asked earlier to do but because of our party we weren’t allowed too so we decided to leave. As our party is exiting the restaurant the owner and apparently “his son” are still talking down to us now yelling to leave which we decided that before threaten to call the sheriff on us. Moral of this long review, I am sorry melody I don’t see you in business in much longer, completely unprofessional, rude, unorganized. Our family was verbal abused and threatened. So upset with this
After making a reservation three months in advance for 25 people for a memorial service for a family member who has been coming to the melody for YEARS. We were greeted friendly excited to eat. After placing our order we were told the inn didn’t have enough food to cater to our group which we had given them an estimated number of a limited selection of items. When we asked what we can do the fix the problem the manager said “I don’t know”… amazed that a restaurant was unable to service a group they knew we’re coming. We had asked them to bring out whatever food they were apparently making and we would make it work among ourselves- they brought out the soups and salads. we then we’re amazed by finding hair in not only drinks BUT our starter salads wrapped up in olives in a martini and in a salad wrap. After nicely bringing it to the managers attention she was found telling staff that she wanted to punch our family member in the face… which is completely unprofessional and threatening. The owner at this point was involved and brought out the chef and pointed saying “he has no hair. How could there be hair in your food” ?? Did you ever think of the waitress that’s bringing us the food? Again, unprofessional and completely unnecessary. Long story short- they could not accommodate a reservation. Told us to suck it up the food was already being made and we ended up leaving after finding hair in our salad and drinks. Management is poor, the owner is a complete jerk (who was drinking outside with his son most of the night) and food is sketchy. Check it for hair. Horrific service for a memorial ceremony. Would not recommend they have no respect for their customers who gave them a deposit and worked around their menu and needs from the start.
