What Mario Rael doesn't like about Persimmon:
The setting is lovely but the food was awful and very expensive for the serve. The mushroom tortellini consisted of 5 tortellinis, a few slices of mushroom and a sauce, all very bland. Even for lunch this was patheticMy companion ordered a Caesar salad and received 7 leaves of cos lettuce, 3 anchovies slices that appeared to come from a jar, and a smattering of bread croutons. All this cost over $50!Never again View all feedback.

But just on a quick casual visit you'll be able to enjoy the splendid stained glass ceiling done by the master painter and muralist Leonard French. It took five years to complete the extraordinary ceiling which is, allegedly, the world's largest glass ceiling. If you have time - do try and see some of French's other work in stained glass such as the not so well know glass panels he did for LaTrobe University and that stand in the Undercroft area next to the David Meyers Building.
Go & sit or wander around the great space & be sure to look up at the cailing each traingle of mosaic glass weighs some incredible amount it is an amazing engineering feat as well as a work of art!!If you are lucky there will be music playing or something showing on one of the screens. Let the kids go outside & enjoy the fountains & garden. All free & nice & cool inside on a really hot day!!
NGV's magnificently understated grand space used for exhibition openings, recital events, seminars and dinners. A must see space which is an integral part of the National Gallery of Victoria.
Enter the Great Hall of the NGVI and you will always see people (of all ages) lying on the floor to gaze up at the stained glass ceiling created by Leonard French. It's magnificent. Even if you have only a short time to visit the Gallery make sure you head to the Great Hall to experience Leonard French's masterpiece.
It's all about the glass ceiling here: a great, gem-coloured expanse of stained glass by artist Leonard French. The floor area is hard and utterly plain, as are the walls and entry spaces. You can lie on the floor and gaze at the ceiling. On some occasions portable chairs are brought in and the hall becomes a venue for a concert, dancing or some other performance. The Great Hall is inside the National Gallery of Victoria. Cross the foyer, pass the info desk, and you'll find the hall spanning the rear of the ground level.Entry is free.
