Arranged to meet friends here while back in Melbourne. It's central, easy to find and has large tables that are suitable for groups. Good atmosphere and good beer. View all feedback.
What Arthur Stewart doesn't like about Hophaus:
Went to Hophaus on a Saturday night. Really busy but found a nice table in the bar which suited us better. Good choice of beers. I tried the wiener schnizel. Not really German as was sitting in a bed of gravy. Why wreck a good schnitzel..lemon wedges only!! Appeared to be a little over fried, however was ok. Came with potatoes and coleslaw which had a German flavour. A little disappointed as have been to Germany and... View all feedback.
Space for two on a busy night, but still with good service. Good selection of german food and drinks. Great spot overlooking the river.
Pretty crowded the night that I went so sat at the bar, which was fine.Went with the special and schnitzel was on small side. Not a big eater and generally skip desert but was still hungry so I went the strudel which was OK.If craving German next time I am in Melbourne I'd probably go back to the one further down near the Convention Centre than here.
We did not book, as we were just wandering around Southbank...and what a find!!! The staff were friendly and attentive. Service was exceptional. Food and beer were oh so yummy :) We were seated at a table overlooking the Yarra, view was awesome. We will definitely be returning.
I'm biased, as I've lived in germany, I can tell authenticity of german food. The food was okay, but very australianised. The beer taster plate is awesome, and really good value. Nice ambience with a funky DJ. A nice area to sit as a singleton or with a bunch of people.
