Monks Yard - South Somerset

We live nearby and saw good reviews online, so we decided to try this restaurant on a Thursday. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The staff seemed clueless when we asked about specials, and the server was a bit grumpy. We ordered BBQ chicken burgers, which were served on wooden chopping boards. I found this unhygienic and impractical, as the food spilled over the edges. My partner's burger dripped fatty juice onto his lap. My chicken burger unexpectedly came with shredded pork, which was cold and unpleasant. The fries were rock hard and cold, likely left sitting for too long. The onion rings were overcooked, and the coleslaw tasted like it was store-bought. The bun became soggy from the toppings, making it messy to eat. Overall, the food tasted off and the experience was disorganized and noisy. We won't be returning.

We had an excellent breakfast in a charming setting. We decided to visit this restaurant after hearing many positive reviews and because we were staying in the area. I ordered a delicious full English breakfast made with high-quality ingredients and cooked perfectly. My wife had smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, also made with good quality ingredients and prepared exactly to her liking. The coffee was excellent and we were provided with a large pot of tea for my wife. The service was good, the restaurant was clean, including the bathrooms, and the staff were friendly. There was plenty of seating available and a wide selection of food to choose from.

Excellent coffee and they have a wonderful selection of freshly baked cakes danish . The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the staff are lovely ! Having a sneaky peek at other people's plates of food, the meals look excellent aswell . It's a great find!

Visited on Saturday with 3 friends including one who raved about this place. What makes Monk Yard stand out is the amazing service. Everyone was so cheerful and helpful. Even the younger members of staff had gumption and weren’t “zombies”, they actually talked to you! Food was delicious, hot and tasty and filling. Really nice atmosphere. Shame the weather wasn’t great else we would have sat outside in the beautiful surroundings. x

I have been going to MY for years, the meals are always excellent, the service is good, front of house girls always smiling and you get such a warm welcome, If your in Ilminster the Monks Yard is the place to stop.
