Grand Fortune Food

My first time here with my sister for lunch. We were planning to order the rice noodle 腸粉, unfortunately they were sold out already. The portion and taste are decent. For less than $9 is considered very good deal. A meal includes a choice of drink. A small bowl of soup and a pack of napkin! The most important is No Tips Accepted!! Wow, I thought I was in Hong Kong. Because some restaurants in Hong Kong have the same policy, no tips! If I'm in the neighborhood, I will try again.

Had a friend deliver some togo as I was feelin under the weather but man this brought me back up a little bit. Meat was soooo tenderized. You can always substitute your noodles but for me I always love ho fun(flat wide noodles). Delicious and clean noodle soup but nothing over the top and don't expect to be blown away. Just a simple cheap meal if you're in the area. A little hot sauce can go a long way if you feel like you need a little more flavor!Also comes with some milk tea, a little watered down though if you're thinking boba shops.

Price is reasonable, and the food is not bad. There is a sign saying “no tip please”, because it is self-service. Make sense.

Unfortunately, the low ratings with Grand Cafe from other reviewers are warranted. Before Covid I used to visit Hong Kong yearly so I end up missing Hong Kong style cafe food often. Which for me it has been difficult to find good spots in the Bay Area. I was dissatisfied with Grand Cafe after trying it for the first time. It's basically self-service and the customer service is not particularly great. They call out your numbers in Cantonese only. The place is also not the cleanest and there was plenty of trash lying around the floor with the tables being all sticky.The food is at an affordable price, but I was not a fan of basically everything I tried. The menu on their wall is also not consistent with their paper menu. They have a picture of lemon iced tea, but they say they don't even sell it here...So I opted for their Hong Kong Milk Tea which was flavorless and I had to use a lot of sugar and condensed milk that they have set out.Steamed BBQ Pork Buns $3.96) appear to be big, but the BBQ Pork filling was pretty sad and it was cold when I bit into it. What I ordered for myself personally was the Beef Rich Noodle Soup $8.87) which was okay until I bit into a piece of beef that had a strange soapy/cleaning product type of taste and had to spit it out into a napkin which is always very unpleasant to do. The rice noodles were pretty good and the broth was okay, but that one piece of meat tarnished the whole bowl. The Rice w/ Preserved Meat Spare Ribs $7.74) was decent in some aspects, but I've had much better at other restaurants. The Chinese sausage was paper thin. The spare ribs were solid, but they don't give a lot. The dried mushroom was pretty inedible and I couldn't even swallow it either. I felt like Gordon Ramsay every time he spits out food on Hells Kitchen or Kitchen Nightmares. I never had to do that in any experience eating out in a decade or so until today. I feel bad wasting food and being this harsh on a business like this, but I really was just so disappointed. I personally wouldn't come back here again and my stomach ended up hurting afterwards. The service, to cleanliness, and quality of food were all a complete let down.

This place is self-serviced and refuses to accept tips. However, this place is quite clean and supplies plenty of condiments for customers. The food is combo mostly, meaning a dish with a drink included all for a price under $10. The quality of food is pretty decent too. I can't ask for more but hope that this eatery place will extend its business hours. So far it only opens for 4 hours a day. This place also operates with great integrity as it doesn't accept tips from customers but still Keeps the place very clean.
