Marvellous restaurant with the best food. I usually like to get the Beef Rendang and the Salted fish rice. Recently, I had to cut down on the rendang as I'm trying to lose weight. Now I think I'm just eating too much rice. Love it too much View all feedback.
What Mark K doesn't like about Satay on Charcoal:
Satay sticks were good but a bit expensive Spring rolls and noodle was saturated in oil and chicken in noodle was not fresh dry and chewy and have no wine glasses View all feedback.
More like a food stall than a shop in terms of service and the way the shop is run. Tasty satay. The noodles were average, quite pricey for the food quality served.
A somewhat disappointing experience. Service was apathetic and slow, we were the first to arrive and we felt the staff almost resented being disturbed. The menu has a good variety of Malay dishes and we were looking forward to some authentic dishes. However a long 25 minute wait brought us vegetable soup that was over salty with vegetables that were gritty, the rice was dry and tasted as if had been carried over from previous services and our steamed fish was not quite cooked enough.
We have tried this restaurant twice now, and I have to say that overall the food is adequate but the service is just really weird. On the second visit we arrived with no waiter in sight and selected our own table. The tables are unlaid. We sat there for about 10 minutes with our wine bottle sitting on the table. Finally the waiter came out and gave us menus, but didn't lay the table or provide glassware. Eventually I got up and found their glassware and water and helped myself. On both visits it was clear that the wait staff are untrained, and there is a general air of indifference, as if it doesn't really matter if they get customers or not. Both times the waiter disappeared out the back, and left the restaurant unattended. The food looks like it's reheated except for the satay sticks which are grilled to order.
First time there, place looks great in terms of the displays and the overall looks (shows potential). Went inside, saw a TV and next to it a computer, i have no idea why it's there. Ordered Nasi Goreng, Kwetiau and satay. Satay came in first, followed by the kwetiau then the nasi goreng. Foods was tasteless other than the satay. Realised that almost all the chicken pieces in the nasi goreng and kwetiau was uncooked (very unpleasant) at least they didn't screw up the satay. I also noticed that they don't have a proper ordering machine, but still have enough for a TV and a computer. Overall the place is great but the food is horrid. Would probably go back in a couple of months, hoping it'll be better.
Got home delivery last night. So glad authentic Satay has returned to vic park. Chicken Satay is sweet and plump and sauce is also nice. Beef Rendang was also very tasty. Had dine-in in June and service wasnt as attentive as a five star restaurant,.. but we were there for great Satay, and got it. Menu is not overly complicated and sticks (get it) with the basics. Will order again.
