Fantastic pub! Run by a young land Lord who is friendly and polite. Pub is always clean and well looked after. Always find it comfortable to drink and the locals are friendly. Better than then the Square n Compass up the road. As landlord needs to be more cheerful.... View all feedback.
What Michelle C doesn't like about The Plough Great Shelford:

Apparently, our Scottish money is worthless! I've used this pub on and off for 48 years. Although I've moved away and returned more than once during that time, I've always found time to pop in for a pint as I did earlier this evening to be told quite firmly that they do not accept Scottish money due to one bad experience with an Irish note in the past. I drove 10 1/2 hours to the village to stay with my mother for a week and was really looking forward to a pint or two (within easy walking distance from parents house btw! . In the last few years of my father's life, I took him for a game of dominoes and a couple of beers every Sunday lunchtime up until he passed away, so good memories. Those memories are now muddied due to an attitude that borders on the ridiculous. Sure, no legal requirement to take Scottish notes, but in the years I've travelled between there and here, NOT ONCE has my money been refused. So, bye bye Plough, I'll never darken your doorstep again! I’ll go and spend my ‘toy’ money elsewhere.
Drove past this pub and decided to stop for a quick beer. Got inside and asked for a pint of IPA, which I remember was always a good beer. The barman stated that they hadn’t served that for about six years when it was a Green King house. I was offered a Doom bar, which in fairness turned out to be a cracking pint. We found the pub to be warm and welcoming.
If you want excellent service, exceptionally polite and accommodating staff and out of this world gourmet burgers or home made pizza go to the Plough in Great Shelford. The inside is spotless and the outside has a very special tent complete with heaters, and so, so comfortable lounging seats, very chic and rustic. You will not be disappointed.
