Whilst there are many places to select from at Hillary’s Boat Harbour, I have recently visited Purple Goat twice in two months (I live out out of town . Inside is like a little haven, serving wondering food. You get to view the boats in the...harbour without the noise a lot of restaurants experience in this precinct. Service also great : View all feedback.
What Claire Wyman doesn't like about Purple Goat Cafe:
Extremely disappointed when we were served the Seafood Basket. To think that for seafood to be served in a marine setting such as Hillarys, one would think that there would be some fresh seafood in the $35 dish. Not so. The previously frozen mortals presented...as seafood totally lacked in taste, in fact one of the squid rings was inedible as it had been in the freezer for way too long. Very poor effort for the askin... View all feedback.
This is a lovely and welcoming restaurant. The food was delicious. They even have a motorized caravan named Tina that delivers the food to your table, which was a fun experience to watch and listen to.
Our group went for breakfast at this restaurant. I decided to order the pancake stacks, which consisted of three McDonald's-style hotcakes topped with butter, whipped cream, and imitation maple syrup. At $6 per hotcake, it was a decent price.
I can't believe they charged $44 for a Thai beef salad. The prices at this restaurant are too high. We ended up ordering fish and chips and squid and chips instead. The chips were actually wedges, which was fine. The fish was not fresh and had a muddy taste, and the squid seemed prepackaged. The salad only had some greens, a tomato wedge, and a few pieces of julienned carrot. The kitchen was extremely loud with mixers, plates dropping, and cutlery being thrown around. Overall, it was not a pleasant dining experience and we won't be returning anytime soon.
Insects in salad were the last straw.... Meals were strongly fried; Cocktails extremely diluted and service was slow. Try somewhere else!!!
Having supported The Purple Goat since they had a very small coffee shop, opposite, we have become very disappointed. Since covid, their prices have gone through the roof! In some cases the cost has been the same as they charge at one of the 5...star restaurants in City Beach that gives superior service. It's no wonder there are crowds at other restaurants at Hillarys!
