Reviews - Grainmaker

Vegetarian, Gluten Free, Meat

Reviews summary

A vibrant fast-casual spot in Davis Square praised for gluten-free choices, standout dumplings, flavorful tacos and hearty rice bowls like the Orange Line chicken. Eco-friendly packaging and a glass-container trade-in add appeal for sustainable diners. Regulars applaud attentive service and quick pickup, though takeout experiences can be inconsistent: some report small portions, watery sauces, order errors, long waits and rare food-safety lapses. Overall, a convenient, health-minded neighborhood favorite with great gluten-free options and some room to tighten quality control.

Grainmaker is one of the healthiest and most affordable spots I've come across! I absolutely love the crispy tofu, and their vegetable selection is exceptional. You can customize your meal to be hearty by choosing brown rice, or keep it light with cauliflower rice, all while enjoying a burst of delicious flavors. It’s a vegetarian paradise with plenty of protein options like tofu, veggies, and Impossible meat. Adding... View all feedback.

What Alexa D dislikes about Grainmaker:

I ordered takeout from this restaurant for the first time tonight, after considering it for a while. Unfortunately, I wasn’t very impressed with the food. I got a rice noodle dish, and it was a smaller portion than I expected for the price. Other BYO noodle and salad spots in Boston provide significantly larger servings for the same amount of money. The dish itself wasn’t terrible, but it lacked flavor and the sauce... View all feedback.

All items are gluten-free. The service was quick, and the food was fresh and flavorful. There was an abundance of vegetables.

This restaurant typically offers excellent service and delicious food at a reasonable price, but today’s experience was disappointing. Although we ordered ahead, we still had to wait 30 minutes upon arrival. It took 45 minutes from placing our order to receiving our meals. The person taking our order was not wearing a mask, despite the restaurant's requirement for customers to wear them, and his demeanor was not friendly. To make matters worse, when we got home, my wife discovered a large piece of saran wrap in her food. It was quite unappetizing.

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, and I finally had the chance today. It can be tough to find good gluten-free options, so this place is a real lifesaver. We ordered several dishes, and our favorite was the Orange Line chicken with rice. I’ll definitely be back for that! And the dumplings, of course—they're just as good as Wang's dumplings, which are the real deal. If you can have gluten, you should head over there to try the leek dumplings as soon as possible!

Disappointing experience. I ordered the Market Noodles, which were quite bland. The carrots were brown and looked oxidized. The tofu, which was supposed to be crispy, turned out to be soft and mushy, with a crumbly batter that was unappetizing. On a positive note, the other vegetables were fresh, so it was still edible overall.

I’ve been eager to try this restaurant for a while, and I finally had the opportunity today. It's often challenging to find good gluten-free options, so this place is a total lifesaver. We sampled several dishes, and our favorite was the Orange line chicken served with rice. I will definitely return to enjoy that again! The dumplings were also fantastic (just as good as Wangs dumplings, which are the real deal—if you can have gluten, you must try their leek dumplings ASAP; you won't be disappointed!). We used to buy a bag of frozen dumplings, 50 for $13, but I'm not sure if they still offer that deal. I really appreciate their eco-friendly packaging and the option to trade in a glass container. It's great to see restaurants that prioritize environmental concerns from start to finish. I can't wait to try the tacos on my next visit!

I absolutely love this restaurant! It's 100% gluten-free, and they even offer gluten-free beer—though I haven't tried it yet. I went there twice today! I really wish Grainmaker would open locations in DC and MD.

- The dumplings are absolutely delicious. - All of their tacos are bursting with flavor. - My go-to meal is a rice bowl with chicken, loaded with toppings and drizzled with ginger miso dressing. - I typically order a few sides of vegetables each week, particularly bok choy and sweet potato. - They truly care about their customers, so if you have any questions or concerns, they will make sure to address them well.

You can customize your meal to be hearty by choosing brown rice, or keep it light with cauliflower rice, all while enjoying a burst of delicious flavors. It’s a vegetarian paradise with plenty of protein options like tofu, veggies, and Impossible meat. Adding chickpeas, seitan, or other non-soy proteins would make the menu even better. Plus, if you’re committed to zero waste, you can bring your own container or opt for your meal to be served in glass Tupperware.
