Very disappointing experience at a private event on 13 March, and even more concerning that I’ve had no response after raising this directly. I was charged £19.90 for a pint and a pink gin and tonic, with no price given before being asked to tap my card. When I queried this, I was told I had been served a double gin — something I did not ask for. The response from staff was dismissive and sarcastic “you didn’t ask for a single either” , followed by being told doubles are served as standard. This raises a serious concern. Under UK weights and measures and licensing requirements, customers should be clearly informed of the measure being served e.g. single or double at the point of sale. Serving doubles without explicitly confirming this with the customer, and then charging accordingly, is not acceptable. The explanation given also does not reflect the menu, which clearly lists both single and double measures. Service on the night was also extremely poor, with waits of around 30 minutes at the bar and clear understaffing. Several guests have since said they were unaware they were being served doubles, which raises further concern and explains why some people became intoxicated much quicker than expected. I have already submitted a formal complaint and have received no response. I would now like the owner or management to address: Why drink measures are not being clearly communicated at the point of sale Why staff responded in such an unprofessional manner What steps are being taken to ensure compliance with licensing and consumer protection requirements If this matter is not resolved, I will be considering escalating it to Trading Standards and the local licensing authority. I expect a prompt response.
Very over priced and slow. My wife ordered a large round of drinks at last orders. She was provided with a tray that was too small. And when some tipped, the girl behind the bar refused to replace (at our cost). She was abrupt and arrogant and was unable to realise we wasn't asking for an extra round after last orders and couldn't see the benefit to the business of extra money in the till.
Service is always lovely and efficient. Pizzas are stone baked are always delicious. The quiz nights are always good fun and worth making the trip.
Still some nice beers, still a nice price though. I do find this bar to be pleasant when not too busy, but when it gets crowded the noise due to all the hard finishes is just painful when trying to have a conversation with friends. It reaches a point where if you look round you can see the whole bar shouting at one another... quite comical really. The bar is nice to visit now and again, but there is better beer and cheaper beer in the village. Oh and pubs where ear protection is not required.
