China Palace Buffet - Smithsburg
China Palace Buffet
Description
China 88 offers a mixed dining experience marked by long wait times, a casual ambiance, and varying food quality. Although some patrons appreciate the fresh, well-prepared dishes and accommodating service, others express disappointment over flavor and incorrect orders. Frequent customer complaints highlight understaffing, lack of essential dining amenities, and inadequate cooling in the dining area. Nonetheless, the restaurant's vegetarian options and family-owned charm maintain a loyal customer base, with many opting for take-out rather than dining in. Overall, with patience and support for this local business, diners may find it worthwhile.

The food was Chinese, and thankfully I didn’t experience any food poisoning or major problems, but I was disappointed by the lack of flavor. I had ordered Kung Pao tofu with extra spice, but it was neither spicy nor flavorful. It reminded me too much of my friend's cashew chicken, and the sauces were similar as well. I was hoping for a great meal, but unfortunately, this experience fell flat.
Thought I had found a 2nd location run by same people as the one in Williamsport, not at all. Totally different even tho menu is identical. Food was OK, average at best but I'll make the drive to Williamsport china 88 next craving. There's just no comparison. Doubtful I return here.
We had driven to Smithsburg from Thurmont to try a different restaurant and they were closed for annual vacation. Found China 88, and due to the good ratings, gave it a try. The food was fresh and well prepared. I would go back for the food, but would likely get take-out instead. There are only a couple of tables there, and frankly, ours felt kind of sticky. Yeah ... it did. And, the place was blazing hot. They must have been running the AC at 80 degrees plus. But....., I would go back for the food on a take-out basis. They do have lunch specials!
