Carlos Restaurant - Slave Lake

Typical local restaurant but locals highly recommend mushroom burger. It is yummy indeed. I have always had quick service here. they have great pizzas, donairs and free refills on soda....which I love.Priced reasonably and i never have a problem getting in and out on a lunch break and being back to work on time.

In all honesty I have never had a better pizza. My favourite is the bacon pepperoni mushroom. They are the only place I have ever had put real bacon. The sauce is a little spicy which I like. I ha e tried nothing else here.

We were passing through Slave Lake, decided to try Carlos Restaurant. When we walked into the dated restaurant, the sign said to seat yourself. We did, then waited for almost 5 minutes before the waitress came over with menus. She did apologize for the wait. She brought our drinks, then we waited another 10 minutes before she came back for our order. While we were waiting for our order to be taken, another couple came in, sat down, waited for over 5 minutes, then left because nobody had even acknowledged their presence. We ordered the veal cutlet. In hindsight, she may have been trying to discourage us from ordering it by recommending another entree that she said was really good - we should have taken her up on it. For $13.95, we received 1 small overcooked veal cutlet with gravy on it and a choice of potato, rice or tossed salad. My husband ordered fries (they were out of mashed potatoes at 6:00 pm) and gravy - extra $0.75 for the gravy. I ordered tossed salad. She asked if I would like cheese on that - I found out when the bill came it was also an extra $0.75. I was glad neither of us was very hungry or we would have left very hungry. This is not a restaurant I would recommend - small portions, poor quality and very slow service.

We had lunch here the other day and the donairs and Caesar salad were exceptional. That is the best donair sauce I think I have tasted in years if not not ever. The staff were great to deal with and the cook also interacts with patrons. Very nice.

I love Carlos Restaurant Pizza and burgers. They have been in Slave Lake for as long as I can remember and the food is always top notch. I challenge you to find a better pizza anywhere.
