Chicken Rice (SGD $5) Liao Fan Hawker Chan. . Propelled to fame as the 1st hawker stall to be conferred a Michelin star (and also the least expensive 1-Michelin star meal in the world at the time), Chef Chan Hon Meng might have lost the star, but not the long queues of hungry patrons. . He continues to serve his delicious chicken rice every day, just as he did before the Michelin accolade. The chicken is delightfully tender and bouncy, with a clean sweet and savory flavor profile. The skin is rich and salty, with a hint of nuttiness that enhances the overall taste. The rice is fluffy and fragrant, carrying a subtle sweetness, complemented by juicy cucumbers, soft braised peanuts, and a perfectly wobbly egg, completing this satisfying meal.
The soy chicken was delicious, and best of all, the prices are very reasonable. My favorite dish is the char siu. The restaurant is located in a rather remote area, but if you're driving, you can park at Block 335 Smith Street in a multi-storey car park. It's $1.20 for half an hour, which is a bit pricey due to the busy area.
I might be among the last people to experience Hawker Chan. For years, Hawker Chan's soy sauce chicken rice and noodles were served at the Chinatown Hawker Centre, where he enjoyed long lines of customers. Recently, he has opened a nice air-conditioned restaurant at the corner of Smith and Eu Tong Sen Street. As a family, we tried a variety of dishes, and they were all excellent. I highly recommend visiting this place. Rating: 5 Cost: 1.5.
