What Christine Noelle Tempongko doesn't like about Masas:
I had high hopes trying out their Caribbean menu. It was overpriced. My steak was bland. My friend’s steak was too salty and tasted like lighter fluid. My son’s ribs were dry. I’m never getting their pina colada either. It wasn’t even rush hour and there was hardly any people but the food took some time. View all feedback.
Additionally, a lot of our food arrived cold. We paid a significant amount for what turned out to be basic dishes that were neither hot nor particularly good. When we brought our concerns to the owner's attention, he made excuses about being short-staffed, which our waiter never mentioned. To be honest, we have no intention of returning. The bathrooms were unkempt, lacking soap and paper towels, one stall had a broken lock, and there were burnt-out light bulbs— all serious violations. The biggest issue for me was the owner's excuses; your employees are the face of your business, and if they treat customers poorly, people simply won’t come back. It's time for improvement.
The staff is fantastic, and the food is excellent. They offer an extensive range of draft beers and other beverages.
The menu is a chaotic mix of different cuisines and cultures, missing the opportunity to cater to what the local community really wants. We're in dire need of dining options in central Kitsap, but there are so many issues with this establishment that it’s disheartening to even write a review, especially considering the number of empty seats I’ve noticed during my visits to the mall. I doubt it will stay open for long. If they want to serve pizza, they should really focus on being a pizza place. If they’re aiming for Latin-inspired dishes, they need to market and commit to that concept. Now, let's talk about the food. It was a mixed bag—some items were quite good, and for that alone, I might return. I had one of my favorite dishes, mofongo, along with calamari, chicharrones, and a side of yuca. However, the yuca was severely overpriced for just five pieces. The others at my table tried the starters as well as two Caribbean bowls—one with chicken and the other with pork. Neither of them enjoyed their meals; the rice was bland and the bowls were mostly topped with iceberg lettuce. Additionally, they didn’t have two items from the kids' menu available on a Sunday afternoon, so my nephew had to settle for a dry chicken breast and fries. My friend ordered the nachos and was disappointed, claiming the meat was dry and tough to chew, and the cheese tasted like Velveeta! She found the dish nearly inedible, mentioning that the only good part was the chips. There was nothing special about it—no guacamole, no sour cream, just olives, cheese, tomatoes, and dry meat piled on top. The menu is all over the place: Italian food, pizza, Latin dishes, and even hotdogs topped with lettuce and chips—there’s a little bit of everything. The décor reflects this disorganization; it's not unappealing, but it lacks cohesion and clear direction. As for the service, it was adequate. The waiter was friendly, but he seemed a bit overwhelmed. Overall, there's much room for improvement if this place hopes to succeed.
The server was very friendly, a bit flamboyant, but overall pleasant. Unfortunately, the drinks were quite weak; it felt like there was hardly any alcohol in them. The pizza was okay, but nothing special, and they had run out of several ingredients, so most of us had to change our menu selections. Everyone in our group agreed that we won’t be returning.
As for the food, it didn’t justify the nearly $60 we spent, which included a tip for just three items. The pizza was decent, but we had to reheat it at home. The Churrasco, which is advertised as a 12oz ribeye steak, was very thin and certainly not anywhere near that weight. We also ordered mozzarella sticks for over $8, and they came with only five small pieces. Overall, we won’t be returning. There are plenty of other local businesses that offer better food and service!
