On my birthday, I wanted to do my 95-year-old grandmother a favor and go to the Gasthof zur Post one last time, where we used to celebrate countless parties since my childhood. Even the front facade showed that the building is visibly showing its age and that apparently no one cares about keeping it presentable anymore. Even the menu outside was barely legible because it was so old and bland. The bland plastic flowers didn 't help either. I had specifically reserved a table for two people requiring care, one that wouldn 't be in the spotlight. What did we get? An uncovered table right by the entrance, in a draft. We were immediately forbidden from closing the glass sliding door. Apparently, with the crowds of people coming and going, we might bump into it… Then the cutlery basket was slammed down on the table, and we were left to distribute the cutlery and coasters ourselves and fold the napkins. The menus, which were visibly dirty, still contained almost the same dishes as before, naturally at new prices. A quick visit to the men 's restroom revealed a long-standing water leak in the form of a rotten window frame and a distinctly early 70s atmosphere! Then the smell of cigarettes from the receptionist wafted around the corner, as there seems to be no smoking ban at reception desks. For €24.90, I was served six shredded calamari rings with raw fries and a lovingly concocted ketchup and mayo sauce. Very hygienic, considering the cook, who apparently wore disposable gloves while cooking, serving, and taking payments. I really wonder why anyone would wear gloves. It 's a shame that the good reputation and quality of this once-popular inn in Eiserfeld have deteriorated to the point that I was more than embarrassed to invite my family there. Never again!
