the third time in the last months and never disappointed. finger lick good and the service is also warm and accommodating. it has a very family feeling for the restaurant. it is one of the more prestigious restaurants under the Chinese community and...it is out of good ground. try it and they will not be disappointed. What Santos Harvey doesn't like about Happy Cook:
As a couple of people on here also seem to have encountered, our voucher was not honoured. When I called I was passed from one staff member to another, only to be scorned for not booking sooner having bought the voucher in July. It was...actually a gift for my dad's birthday in september hence why we were only just booking. Long story short... I was told if I wanted to book I would have to pay. The man passed blame b... Currently I'm sitting on my sofa, nursing my rumbling tummy which is like a cavernous void of emptyness. If your idea of a good night out features drip feeding cold food over a number of hours then this is the place for you! At least...they turned the air con up to blow more cold air at us to keep us awake whilst the dishes were cooked one by one. At one point I visited the loo to have a wee. This turned out to be one of the highlights of the evening. The toilets were clean and I liked the tiles. Back in the restaurant my beef fat, stomach and rice pot had arrived. It was hot. I didn't finish it. After paying some of the bill we were nearly denied our exit courtesy of a door that jams tight. However, in spite of my weakened malnourished state I was able to push it open and escape. I have just eaten a banana but after writing this review I'm feeling weak and light headed. I may need another banana to get me up the stairs to bed...not sure if I can make it to the fruit bowl though...so hungry.....
We arrived at By we gave up and went home hungry, our meal had still not arrived. Others in our party had managed to eat. They ordered a mix of bbq skewers and rice. They came out one item at a time, over...the course of an hour, most of it cold. If you order onion, chicken and fried rice you don't expect to be eating the onion on it's own then waiting half an hour for a plate of cold rice. No apologies for the wait. It seems they're only set up for the cook your own buffet, so I'm not sure why they bother with the rest of the menu if they can't actually cook it within hours of you turning up hungry. I could have walked home, cooked myself dinner and walked back in the time it took them to not manage to feed me. Never going back.
I am somewhat amazed at some of the previous verdicts on this hot pot restaurant. We booked a day in advance with a Groupon voucher and had no problems whatsoever. The staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming throughout. The process was simple. You ordered a...skewer starter and a hot pot sauce type. We had king prawns and squid skewers and had a Sechuan red hot pot (one of choices). You then go off and select of meat and seafood and of vegetables. You also get free range of lots of exciting sauces and sprinkles. Whilst you are weighing stuff out the hot pot arrives and heats us. They then bring your starters. There was lots to choose from and some stuff that I had never seen before. Your ingredients were added to the hot pot and cooked for minutes. You get a reasonable amount of boiled rice and then tuck in. It was really fun, tasty, interesting and good value. The staff were really good with us, as we were relative novices at the hot pot thing. I was gratified that although we went for an early meal, there were still other people (mainly of Chinese Asian origin) dining there, and that is usually a good sign.
