When we were here in June the vegan menu was just starting up, but we were very impressed. There is a seperate vegan menu which has five starters and five main courses, and several desserts (proper desserts like chocolate cake and sticky toffee pudding! . Everything we had was lovely. We met the chef and he is very keen on making the vegan menu as good as he can and wants to keep it going. It's so great to have more... View all feedback.
What TheEverydayVegan doesn't like about Cross Keys Inn:
We traveled 40 minutes to reach this restaurant as it was the only nearby option. Unfortunately, we were the only patrons there, and while the service was friendly and efficient, the quality of the food and pricing were disappointing. The deep-fried mushrooms were acceptable, but the vegetable stir fry was laughable, and the burger was worse than what you'd find at McDonald's. Don't be fooled by the pictures; the pla... After visiting the Scottish borders donkey sanctuary I was very hopeful finding at least something remotely vegan on Happy Cow and we came across the Cross Keys Inn. I was a bit suspicious wondering if a country pub would really be catering to vegans apart from the staple chips and green salad option but when we got there we were extremely pleasantly surprised that the pub offers a full vegan menu. We were lucky to be able to pick of the vegan menu even though we were visiting on a sunday which usual has a traditional sunday lunch/dinner menu. The options were amazing ranging from starters such as garlic mushrooms to mains such as a vegan burger with all the trimmings or stuffed peppers (very popular item according to the staff) to dessert options such as the sticky toffee pudding (which was so good). The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone, even making a special trip to go there if you are in the area! Its a really nice and cosy traditional pub that offers such a great vegan menu!
They no longer offer a separate vegan menu. Currently, the choices are limited to two starters and two main dishes. I was quite disappointed with the quality. We tried the battered mushrooms with chili dip, the burger, and the vegetarian stir-fry. I have my doubts about whether the burger sauce was truly vegan, despite their insistence. The chips were decent, but the portion was small. Overall, it was just okay. I wouldn’t recommend it.
This pub has a really traditional vibe and offers a great selection on its vegan menu. The battered tofu with chili lime and cashews is absolutely delicious!
They no longer offer a separate vegan menu, which is disappointing. The options available are just two starters and two main dishes, and I found the quality to be quite lacking. We tried the broken mushroom with chili dip, and the vegetarian burger. I’m not entirely convinced the burger sauce was actually vegan, despite their assurance. The chips were ordered, but there weren’t many on the plate. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this place.
We drove for 40 minutes to get to this restaurant because it was the only option nearby. Once we arrived, we were the only customers there. While the service was efficient and friendly, the food quality and prices were disappointing. The deep-fried mushrooms were decent, but the sweet fritters were overly sweet, and the burger was worse than what you'd find at McDonald's. Don't trust the photos, as the reality is quite different. The burger was also served with a sauce that I was convinced was just mayonnaise. Honestly, I would recommend avoiding this place!
