My wife and I stopped here for a late lunch after a day of hiking in the Mendips. The food and beer were just what we needed. I had the fried dish and my wife had the vegan option, both were delicious. Great value for the money and the staff at the pub were very friendly and helpful. View all feedback.
What Peter Dubuis doesn't like about The Pennscot Inn:
I really enjoy this pub. It has a lot of character and the local regulars, bartenders, and owner are all quite friendly. However, be prepared to engage in endless, lighthearted conversations, as one drink easily leads to another in a very pleasant way. View all feedback.
Four of us stayed in pennscot inn in shipham, for one night, while some of the mendip way to foot. the greeting was friendly, the rooms were clean when small and the ensuite was tiny. a water cooker with tea and coffee was also available....In the night after dinner at another place, we returned and with the door key in front of the door, as instructed, were commissioned by the owner of the man “gnet”, not with “Have a nice evening? Do they want a drink from the bar? but with a finger to his lips and sshhhhhhhhhhhhhh! we have not made a lärm! the breakfast itself was to get pastry, fruit juice etc. and from the short menu order the full or vegetarian breakfast and the toast. tea and coffee were also offered. nice enough breakfast, but it was like the guests were an inconvenience, not a real hosting, maybe they are in the wrong business?
We met a friend here for lunch and having never been here before didn’t know what to expect. The bar area and garden room was quite pleasant with a nice log fire burning in the main bar area. The food menu was quite extensive and...what we ordered was very tasty and well presented. The steak and kidney pie was one of the best I’d had in a pub and presented like no other I had seen before. My wife and our friend had fish which they enjoyed very much. If I was to be critical then I would say the food could be served hotter or on hot plates but that is being a little picky. It was unfortunate that there was no one else in the pub whilst we were there so there was no ambiance. However we will definitely return but probably not until the new year.

Could do with a bit more atmosphere, only a couple of people in there on a Tuesday eve, but friendly staff and good food at a good price.
