Guests enjoy a warm welcome from the friendly staff and a cozy historic atmosphere, making it a perfect refuge for both individuals and families. However, some visitors have noted discrepancies in pricing and occasional feelings of being rushed during their coffee visits. Despite these minor concerns, the location remains popular for its scrumptious food, inviting ambiance, and thoughtful touches like gluten-free options. A treasured spot worth revisiting.
Friendly staff. The shop was very busy with upstairs as well as outside tables and we therefore had to wait some time. However, a pleasant and cosy place to enjoy. My husband had a chocolate and biscoffi cake which was sublime. Unfortunately I had the GF option, a tired Victoria sponge that was past its date. I didn't complain, they had enough to cope with. The dried-out flowerless stems on the table standing in green water, could have been removed or replaced.
Fell into this place having parked the car. Seemed busy from the front, but plenty of room at the back.Great menu and quite an extensive specials board, but we were just after a coffee...... and a scone cream and jam and a buttered tea cake..... obv,Coffee was great and the scone was brilliant, and so much jam and clotted cream that my wife just had to share it!All for under a tenner with fast efficient and extremely friendly service we will be back, and the wife can order cream and jam for herself!!Go, enjoy and support this great place.
Stopped here after a walk around the reservoir for a quick cream tea. We sat outside as we have a dog but it was dog friendly indoors too. Staff were extremely friendly. Cream tea was lovely and all very fresh with beautiful china tea pots. We would definitely recommend. It's also a great place for people watching in the square.
This beautiful, quaint, teashop nestled in Axbridge square is a joy to visit. The staff are friendly, welcoming helpful, plus they serve some of the best scones/cream teas I've ever had. They welcome well behaved dogs too which is brilliant for all the walkers in the area. Really can't fault the place
We are regular visitors to The Almshouse. The scones are excellent and the clotted cream is served generously. The variety of cakes means there's something for all tastes. The coffee is good and the Belgian hot chocolate superb. The team are always friendly. All that and a well-curated new and second-hand bookshop. Cosy atmosphere inside plus seating on the square.
