While some patrons rave about the warm atmosphere, tasty homemade meals, and reasonable prices, others have found the food lacking in quality and flavor. The menu caters to various dietary needs, including vegan options, making it an appealing choice for many. However, inconsistent execution, particularly with takeaway, has disappointed some guests. With its welcoming vibe and dedication to traditional pub fare, the establishment remains a popular stop for locals and visitors alike, though it may not meet everyone's expectations.
We often head out into Somerset from our home in Axbridge, to visit Gardens open for charity, and try to find somewhere nice for lunch or beer in a pub garden, but, as Vegans and non drinking, often end up disappointed. We usually head for somewhere that sounds local and lovely but have to leave because the only Vegan choice on the menu isn't on on,or they don't have any of that fancy alcohol free nonsense. Thank heavens then for a genuine country pub, that still has that magical feel of still being a proper pub but serving lovely homestyle food. We felt very welcome and were amazed to see a menu with Vegan options given equal space on the menu, even on a Sunday! They have three main meals, a choice of three desserts on Sunday and Guinness and Becks blue zero on the bar. We had a Mediterranean veg tart, with roast potatoes, lots of lovely veg and gravy too! For Dessert we had warm chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and ice cream, just to make it a special occasion! The staff were wonderful, welcoming, genuinely friendly and helpful. Highly recommended, Vegan or not!
We had our first takeaway meal from here this evening and it was excellent. Great home-cooked pies with chips peas and gravy in very generous portions, and all piping hot. A lockdown delight, highly recommended!
Nice old village pub. Sunday lunch.....feast for a king I had a really nice beef dinner with all the trimmings and my wife had the chicken. This was followed by apple and blackberry pie and banoffee pie. All really nice. Good home cooking Best if you book .definitely worth a visit
Staying in the village for the weekend this was the only pub we could walk to. It did not disappoint. Friendly service both times we visited. The food we had (burger and pie) was superb and very good value. Lovely garden which is not very well publicised. Would go back if in the area just for the pie alone.
We are visitors to the area but wish we lived closer. Lovely pub, good food and really friendly landlord and staff. Highly recommend for good old fashioned home cooking.
