Chopstix - Seaside
Chopstix
Description
Chopstix, with locations in Monterey and Seaside, offers a mixed dining experience. While the restaurant boasts a cozy ambiance and friendly staff, diners should be cautious regarding menu labeling, particularly for "vegan" items—which often contain animal-derived oyster sauce. Highlights include flavorful pho and well-prepared sandwiches, but some dishes, such as the fried tofu and calamari, lack the expected quality. Despite minor inconsistencies in service and some dishes, many patrons rave about the delicious soups and refreshing boba tea. Overall, Chopstix remains a beloved spot for those seeking satisfying flavors in a charming environment.

Chopstix has two locations in Monterey and Seaside. This review is for the Seaside location. It turns out that the "vegan" items on the menu are not actually vegan. I double-checked about the oyster sauce in their stir-fried tofu ramen and other dishes. The server confirmed that the sauce they use is bottled and contains animal derivatives, and there is no way to make the food without it. This means that all rice plates that include stir-fried tofu or similar items labeled as "vegan" are not actually vegan because they use this sauce on all of them. The server then informed me that the only truly vegan items on the menu are the veggie soups. I asked why things are labeled as vegan if they are not, but she could not provide an answer and did not mention any plans to correct or update the menu. The photos below are not reflective of vegan options, as it turns out. The only truly vegan items are the three soups listed on the "vegan" menu. (Updated from previous review on 2021-11-11)
I was served meat despite my dietary restrictions and the employee did not make any effort to correct the mistake. She seemed to blame me for not liking meat.
The calamari and popcorn chicken were a bit cold and wet, but the chicken still tasted great. The calamari was not as good. However, the BBQ chicken sandwich and BBQ beef sandwich were both excellent.
What the Pho are you waiting for? Head over to Chopstix in Seaside for some incredible food at an affordable price. With rising dining costs almost everywhere, it’s refreshing to find a place like Chopstix that fits my budget and still delivers delicious meals! The staff is friendly, and the restrooms are clean. While the paper towel dispenser was empty, they do have an air dryer, so it was the least of my concerns. The food arrived quickly, probably because we visited around 3 PM when there were only a couple of other customers. They have an extensive list of boba drinks and plenty of options if Pho isn’t your thing. Plus, they provide chopsticks and forks without needing to ask, which is great for those who might not be familiar with them!
Great service.. the employees here are great. The food is ok, but i don't like spicy. So i don't order it. I got the pork and vermicelli noodles. Traditionally these are not spicy and safe for kids to eat. This is not the case here. Don't get me wrong. Its good, but my acid reflux us going to be upset
