The breakfast at this restaurant is fantastic! You can watch as they make your breakfast, and the home fries, blueberry pancakes, and French toast are all amazing. View all feedback.
What Christine Osuba dislikes about Peter Pause:
The restaurant's operating hours need to be updated. I tried to go a little before 1 pm, and they said they closed at 1:30, but they were already closed. This happened on a Tuesday. It doesn't seem like the same place I remember from my childhood. View all feedback.

I wish I had thought to take pictures, because this place was absolutely phenomenal. Breakfast Platter, $14... three eggs, toast, bacon, hash browns, and a short stack of fairly huge pancakes. Everything was just about perfect, though I wish they could have gotten the hash browns a tiny bit crispier. For $8 they have a cinnamon bun French toast, which is this enormous fat cinnamon bun sliced into thirds and then prepared frenchtoast style. The omelettes are fairly large too. Only three real gripes. Number one, they do not have a gluten-free bread or toast option. It d/n affect me, but did affect a couple of other people in the group I was with. Number two, a side of corned beef hash was $8. Maybe that's a really huge side, but that's a pretty steep price, an entree price for a side. I ended up not getting it. I would imagine, that had I goten it, it would have been excellent like everything else was. Number three, there's syrup is just regular National brand quote unquote pancake syrup, and while they do offer real maple syrup, it is a $3 upcharge. But those were relatively minor gripes. The food is great, the service was fantastic, extremely friendly, extremely helpful, and very accommodating of special dietary needs (aside from tbe lack of GF toast) and food allergies, and willing to make reasonable substitutions were possible. A very good experience. Five people ate more or less like happy pigs for only $81.
A local breakfast institution! Italian toast, handmade sausage patties, coffee, eggs....this is the place!
Lovely little breakfast place, the Dutchman special is very inexpensive for how delicious it is!
Nestled in the heart of the city, this diner promises an unforgettable breakfast experience. Patrons rave about the delicious fare, including standout dishes like homemade French toast and hearty breakfast platters, all made from high-quality ingredients. The inviting atmosphere is complemented by friendly, attentive service, making it a perfect spot for families and groups alike. While a few guests noted minor issues with operating hours and parking, the overwhelming sentiment celebrates this gem as a nostalgic haven for breakfast lovers. With a touch of modern twists on traditional classics, this diner has quickly become a new favorite for many.

Great diner! If you want breakfast, this is the place! The staff is super and super helpful! We went as a big group and they took us as well as possible. The food was very good and came really fast for what was ordered. If you get toast, don't miss the Italian bread!
Great food! We had the Cali, breakfast Burrito, and fre-shavocado, hash, blueberries and domestic frits. Everything was delicious!
One of our favorite places. My family loves Peter Pause. Food, atmosphere and staff are great.
This is our go to place! My 3 year old loves his blueberry pancakes! Our favorite part is the fact that staff is always so friendly. This year there was Santa greeting kiddos at the door and giving out goodie bags.

They also have a cinnamon bun French toast for $8, which is a giant cinnamon bun sliced into thirds and then prepared French toast style. The omelets are quite large as well. I do have a few minor complaints. First, they don’t offer a gluten-free bread or toast option. While that didn't affect me, it did matter to a couple of people in my group. Second, a side of corned beef hash costs $8. While it may be a large portion, that price seems steep for a side dish, which is why I passed on it. I assume it would have been excellent, just like everything else. Lastly, their syrup is just the regular National brand "pancake syrup," and although they offer real maple syrup, it comes with a $3 upcharge. Despite these small issues, the food was fantastic, and the service was outstanding—extremely friendly, helpful, and accommodating when it came to dietary restrictions (aside from the lack of gluten-free toast) and food allergies. They were happy to make reasonable substitutions when possible. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. Five of us ate quite well for only $81.
Peter Pause is one of the best, if not THE best, breakfast place in Schenectady! Good old fashion diner feel, HUGE portions of food and beyond reasonable prices. The staff is really down to earth, personable and always have a smile for you. I can't recommend this place enough Parking: There is street parking and you can usually park pretty close.

First timer for breakfast. Place was empty. Food was prepared fast but the toast was burnt. Seems like it should have been fixed since there was no one else waiting for food. Place looked clean enough and the waitress was nice so no issues there. The eggs were good, the bacon was good but the potatos weren't very good at all. Tasteless and barely warm. The coffee was terrible. The french toast was pretty good, nice and moist but it could have used real maple syrup. Not the end of the world thou
Excellent meal! Felt like I went back in time. To the good old diner days. Best coffee I have had in a long time! My Greek omelet was cooked to perfection! Device was great too!
Awesome diner! If you want breakfast this is the place! The staff are awesome and super helpful! We went as a large group and they accommodated us as best they could. The food was very good and came out really quickly for what was ordered. If you get toast do not miss the Italian bread!
