Field Notes offers an exceptional dining experience in the Capital Region. Although extreme heat forced us to change plans and cancel our dinner on the farm, the chefs quickly relocated the meal to Riverside Maple Farm, allowing us to enjoy our dinner comfortably in air conditioning. It was fascinating to dine inside a genuine maple production room, and the chefs effortlessly adapted to the new setting. The food was... View all feedback.
What Eleanor Murray dislikes about Field Notes:
There's only one waitress serving the approximately 35 customers, and while she was friendly, she was definitely overwhelmed. Our food took 30 minutes to arrive. My husband ordered two fried eggs, a tiny portion of scrapple (about 1.5 inches square), and a similarly small serving of hash browns. His toast was barely toasted. I had two small slices of limp French toast instead of the brioche I'd expected, with little... View all feedback.

All well balanced, good textures, creative combinations, new inventive pairings and lots of love and care for local ingredients and utilizing all parts of the plants and animals. Need to try the Friday night and Sunday brunch. And anything new they come up with, haha! Thanks Joan and Kyle! Also Emily and team for bringing Maple to all dishes.
Stopped in for brunch on Sunday morning. Food was amazing, super fresh, and very reasonably priced. We split five items between us and would recommend each one. Cannot wait to try the Saturday night dinners!
We had an incredible dinner! Joan and Kyle are delightful hosts and chefs, explaining about the food and making everyone feel at home and welcome. They did a fantastic job of pairing interesting tastes together for amazing dishes. Last night featured basil raspeberry gelee, asparagus and parsley terrine, pork roulade a' la moutarde, farm cheese, green tomato rhubarb eclairs and bourbon, maple sesame eclairs, and confit raspberries. You sit at a long table in an glass enclosed tent so you can enjoy the farm setting and getting to know your fellow diners. It was a wonderful evening, and we are looking forward to going again! I've heard their Sunday brunch is terrific as well.
We had dinner at Field Notes on a recent fall evening. There was a chill in the air, but inside the tent it was cozy and we enjoyed a unique and delicious evening. Our hosts were Kyle and Joan, the charming couple who were running the kitchen. Kyle was busy, mostly, but Joan was enjoyably chatty as the two rushed back and forth to the kitchen preparing our meal. Something you need to know is that this is not a conventional restaurant dinner. You'll be seated at a big table with a group of people, so if you're expecting a quiet spot to canoodle with your honey, this ain't the place. If you like a big dinner party where you meet new people and have good conversation, you'll love it. The food was terrific. On the night we were there, the main attraction was the tenderest pork chop I've ever eaten, the centerpiece among several courses that featured unique dishes that were all well executed. Of note (no pun intended), if you want a glass of wine with dinner, bring a bottle along. Better yet, bring a little extra to share. As we settled in for desert, a fellow diner shared some very nice bourbon from a flask that appeared from nowhere. It's just that kind of place.
Lansing Farm is a hidden gem located in a tranquil suburb west of Albany Airport, surrounded by open spaces. If you're coming from the south, the drive along Route 155 is quite pleasant as you head north. For those traveling from above the Mohawk River, the route on Route 7 may not be as picturesque, but it is still manageable. Once you venture further west, you can make a quick stop at Lyle's Hoagies in Schenectady for a sub to enjoy later. Soon after, you'll take a left onto a winding country road that leads through residential areas until you arrive at Lansing Farm's stand. They offer a selection of seasonal produce, and I picked up some beautiful sun-ripened tomatoes (though the clerk wasn’t sure of the variety), which I plan to use for dinner tonight. Don’t forget to browse the store while you’re there! Now, let's talk about lunch. I arrived a little late, around 1 PM, and found only a few other diners inside the tent, which has clear sides and provides a lovely view of the fields. I was excited to try the scrapple, and I was pleased to find it available for just $4 as part of the Local Special, which also includes two eggs and a vegetable hash (mostly sweet potatoes with some zucchini). Other items on the menu are priced closer to $10. The eggs were fresh and had incredibly flavorful yolks, though the hash was just okay. The scrapple, on the other hand, was more like a pudding with a crust—less substantial than I anticipated, but it paired nicely with the Riverside maple syrup, so I can’t complain too much. A rather plain buttered biscuit accompanied the dish, perfect for soaking up the tasty juices. I enjoyed a refreshing glass of mint iced tea, though I would have appreciated a refill. The service was quite laid-back, so don’t expect to be rushed, especially if you plan to indulge in several courses. Bring your growler or a bottle of wine and take your time enjoying the beautiful late summer weather—perhaps even with the occasional thunderstorm for added ambiance.

If you try to run a restaurant/cafe then do this. Field instructions not. This place was advertised as a farm to the table and is near so man and I decided to try the breakfast at a beautiful August morning. They are only open Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings. Whatever, that's good. Do what you can do. You don't. They open at 10 a.m., we came at 11 a.m. together with enough other parties to fill the small case. A few others before us. We ordered within 10 minutes, but it took 20 for our coffee and ice tea to arrive. Then the orange juice came. There is a waitress for the 35 or so capacity audience. It is thin, but very pleasant. It took 30 minutes to get our food. My husband had 2 fried eggs, a very small portion of scrap (1.5 square), and similar size piece hash browns. His toast was really not roasted. My brioche was actually 2 small slices of Limp-Französich-Toast with little taste and a teaspoon of strawberry jam and yogurt. Not appetizing. My recommendation is that they actually serve better food in larger quantities and rent another waitress. The other 5 stars? Must be relatives. It was a nice idea, badly executed. We won't be back.
Quite possibly the best breakfast/brunch I?ve had in my life. The eggs, hash, toast and sausage were as fresh and flavorful as can be imagined and all served in a relaxing, comfortable, beautiful setting. The farm staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make the experience special. After you eat, you can also grab fresh produce, meats, eggs, sauces and more from the farm store on site. I cannot recommend coming here strongly enough.
My wife and I have had a delightful time at this restaurant for the past two Sundays, and our experiences have been fantastic! The staff is welcoming and friendly; they even remembered us on our second visit. The food is both tasty and reasonably priced. When I mentioned a dish I loved, the chef graciously took the time to sit down and share her recipe with me. We’re already looking forward to coming back for brunch every Sunday!
I have dined at many restaurants in the Capital District, and my meal at Field Notes was one of the best I've ever experienced. The ambiance is intimate, and the food pairings were exceptional. From the moment you arrive, the atmosphere feels more like a customized dining experience than typical mass-produced meals, reminiscent of a home-cooked feast. The cozy setting invites lively and enjoyable conversations with other guests. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience.

I had two small slices of limp French toast instead of the brioche I'd expected, with little flavor, accompanied by a teaspoon of strawberry jam and yogurt. It was quite unappetizing. My suggestion would be for them to focus on providing better food in larger portions and to hire an additional waitress. Those five-star ratings must be from friends or family. It’s a cute concept, but it is badly executed. We won’t be returning.

I have dined at many restaurants in the Capital District, and the meal we had at Field Notes was truly one of the best I've experienced. The atmosphere is very intimate, and the dish pairings are outstanding. From the moment you arrive, you're presented with a specially crafted meal that feels personal and homemade instead of mass-produced. The cozy environment also fosters conversation with other guests, making the experience both refreshing and enjoyable. I highly recommend trying it!
