a beautiful meal in a very lively little restaurant. we had to wait a long time until our food arrived, we were not concerned about it, because we had served our drinks quickly and we were for a relaxed evening, so we were happy to chat and take them into the atmosphere of the restaurant. once we got our food wow it was wonderful and surpassed the description on the menu. the eating was exceptional and hot pierced. w... What Nadine Dianne K doesn't like about White Horse And Griffin:
Came here to eat a few years ago, it was fantastic, keep going back hoping it will get back to it’s usual standard, sadly it hasn’t! The meal last night was awful, one starter returned as burnt, can’t believe they even served it, and two mains returned, fish was actually “off”! Sadly we will never return and will tell everyone we know never to set foot in this establishment! View all feedback.
This cute little bohemian bar offers fair rooms for the price and a lovely breakfast. The location is amazing, right in the center of town. While there is no parking, it's easy enough to find parking across the street. Dogs are allowed in, but it's unclear if they can stay overnight. Everything is within walking distance, including a pub down the road that offers live music on weekends. It's a lovely little find and we've already booked to stay again. We plan on bringing our family along in 2024.
When we arrived at 5pm, the restaurant was empty, so we thought we could get a table early. The staff seemed a bit unfriendly initially, but we were understanding when they explained that there was a large party upstairs and there might be a delay in our food. We were happy to wait and have a drink while they sorted out the party. We waited a long time to order a drink, even though we had agreed to be patient. Eventually, a lady took our order, but the attitude of the servers was unprofessional and immature. We asked to move tables because our original table was unstable, and instead of apologizing, the server brought us a doorstop to fix it. During our meal, my partner's chair collapsed under him, which was a bizarre and embarrassing incident. The staff quietly replaced the chair without apologizing or offering any kind of compensation. When we expressed our unhappiness to the server and then later to a lady who appeared to be a manager, their responses were dismissive and lacking in apology. Overall, the service was shocking, and it seems that others have had similar experiences based on reviews I have read. The chef gets 10 points for the delicious food, but the customer service and front of house staff deserve a 0. We left the restaurant feeling embarrassed, unhappy, and taken advantage of. My partner has vowed never to return. It is unclear if the manager is aware of these comments, but they should certainly address the issues with their service.
Couldn’t have asked for better for our 2 night stay- we ate in the restaurant our first night and the food was impeccable. The team was short staffed but communicated that with us from the get go (which is always appreciated) but between Kiah, Cam and Lewis we were treated amazingly well. Chatting to Amy on checkout was a delight, the owners of this hotel should be proud to have 4 such lovely members of staff. Can’t wait to visit again, the White Horse and Griffin has been a firm favourite of ours for a long time, and hopefully will be for years to come!

Everything was just so Mouthwatering delicious xx we had prawn and crayfish cocktail, crab Macaroni cheese starter. Roasted beef followed by ginger parkin with honeycomb and black treacle sauce, and winter spiced rice pudding with cinnamon shortbread. A lovely bottle of Merlot. Highly recommend as everything was cooked to perfection and tasted devine xx
