What User doesn't like about Sunrise Restaurant:
I have come here twice since they opened. The spring rolls are fairly good. The last time I had the spicy beef soup. The soup was good but the beef was extremely chewy. We would go back again. View all feedback.
We ordered the basics - cold rolls, Vietnamese rolls, and curried chicken with vegetables. Overall, we were very impressed. The service this time was excellent, with at least three servers ensuring our glasses were filled and our plates were served and cleared promptly. The food was good, ranking in the top 75% of Vietnamese restaurants we have tried. The decor was simple and tasteful, adding to the overall dining experience. While decor may not be a huge factor, in some Vietnamese restaurants it can enhance the dining experience. Overall, we give this restaurant two thumbs up and are glad we gave it another chance.
I have visited this restaurant twice since it opened. The spring rolls are quite delicious. During my last visit, I ordered the spicy beef soup. Although the soup was tasty, I found the beef to be overly chewy. Despite this, I would still consider returning in the future.
Sunrise is a restaurant that we have visited many times and will continue to return to. While the restaurant may not be fancy and is not in the best location (you have to approach it either from the south on Idylwyld or through the back alley), we have never been disappointed with a meal here. They serve Canadian Chinese cuisine as well as some Vietnamese and Thai dishes. What sets Sunrise apart is the freshness of their ingredients. Unlike some Asian restaurants that serve stringy, fatty, and chewy meat, Sunrise offers lean, tender, and perfectly cooked meats. The vegetables, while a standard mix of onions, carrots, bell peppers, broccoli, and bok choy, are cooked well and taste crisp and fresh. The spring rolls are a bit oily but bursting with flavor. One of the best things about Sunrise is that it is usually not crowded, so our dishes come out quickly after ordering. The service may be a bit staggered as it is a small family-owned business with a limited kitchen staff, but this style works well for sharing dishes. Some of our favorite dishes include the coconut curry, sizzling crispy ginger beef, sizzling chicken with peanut sauce, and lemon chicken, which is unique in that the sauce is served on the side to keep the chicken crisp.
This was the 3rd and last time we tried this restaurant. First time we went in, got seated, and were ignored for 20 minutes (place was empty) so up and left. Second time we tried they were closed (tho sign said it was during regular open hours), so we decided to try one more time, then give up.We enjoy vietnamese food, so always on lookout for a good restaurant, and this one is central. Orded the basics, cold rolls, veitnamese rolls, and curried chicken with veg. Overall, very impressed. This time the service was excellent! They had at least 3 servers who made sure our water was filled, and served and cleared our plates.Food was good. In the top 75% I'd say.Decor was really nice, simple and tasteful. Not a huge big deal, but decor is some vietnamese restaurants is incentive to just way attention to your plate :)Overall, we give it two thumbs up, and are glad we gave it another chance. .
